exhaust from vollks?? Sidewinder any good? 10mm flanges
Hi Guys
I need a good quality exhaust (i think) and dont have anything. Vollks are selling a sidewinder with 10mm flanges at the moment with a muffler for 400
bucks and wanted to know if anyone had any feedback about this particular exhaust. i don't know if it is genuine A1 or not, if it will suit my street
driven race car setup. needs to go on a standard donk for a while first, then probs a 1916 with duals etc. Will this be a suitable exhaust for a few
years?
My alternative is to just buy a 1 5/8 merged steel header?

I think a 1 5/8" would be way too big

I have a 1 5/8" and a hide away muffler and you could even get a muffler made to suit you car and get it Ceramic coated,
As I have had a few different types of stainless steel exhaust and if you drive your vw they go a brown colour,
But a lot of vw people don't drive their cars

True Ian and I think you are one of those persons . But your trouble
is that you have to decide which one of your VW's you are going to take. Now that's crazy (should read - lucky)
Aussie Dubbin, I met a guy the other day that picked up one of these exhaust from Vollks maybe drop him a PM. His name is Gordon and his user name is
gordysbeetle. Hope you dont mind Gordon. But as Ian said, you can always add extra muffler until you increase engine size.

I got a sidewinder and it's been pretty hard to get it to seal at the head flanges. Make sure you get one with welded flanges, not free-floating like
mine. They make it easier to fit but harder to seal!

About the exhaust being too big, could i restrict it somehow while on a stock donk... would a different muffler give me that effect? options.
Does anyone know of a reasonably built merged header at a good price? I really want a thick flanged exhaust

I think mine was from Wolfsburg Automotive. Whoever it was, they had a huge truck set up at the SA Day of the VW, but I think that they're from the
eastern states somewhere. As far as being too big goes, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine is probably the same size as what you're looking at but it
made my stock 1600cc quicker than the old stock exhaust and it sounds hilarious. Put a huge grin on my face! Still probably oversized but I don't
care.

i picked one up from vollks on saturday and they look good to me. wont be fitting it for a while. got a few other things on the rebuild list.at only
$400 it does'nt matter if it needs some mods.

You can use normal SILASTIC on Your exhausts...
works on clean metal every time...
does not melt or catch on fire

If you use a small amount of dow corning red hi temp silicone on the gaskets it will not leak, i have a stainless steel side winder exhaust from
george, it has 10MM thick fixed flanges and fitted first time with no issues.
