New Alternator , what size to buy?
Hi all, I am replacing my dead alternator on my 1600 tp bug. I see there are several sizes eg. 90amp 75amp 55amp 51amp ect. Can anyone help me with
which one I might need?
I have an electric fuel pump and an stereo system and its a 12v system. Cheers

What vehicle is it for?
Are you intending on adding anything else that will be a current draw down the track?
eg, winch, spotlights, bigger stereo, washing machine, thermo fans on an oil cooler etc
If no then a 51/55amp will suit you just fine.

Thanks for the reply Smiley, It's a type 1 beetle and a washing machine sounds like a interesting idea,
I could mount it on the rear guard like a giant external air cleaner.

With a Beetle the most you'd be running is a reasonable stereo and maybe a pair of spot lights.
I think that a 55amp would be plenty for you. That's all I have on my Baja and I run pretty powerful headlights and spotlights. Handles it fine.
I'm looking to upgrade mine down the track though as I would like to add an on board compressor and winch.
