Converter Wanted 89 kombi Auto to EJ 2.2 subaru
I live in the southern Suburbs of Adelaide. I have an EJ22 Subaru motor with complete wiring loom and an adapter plate and drive plate to mate up to
the Kombi auto box. My 89 Automatic Kombi has power steering, air conditioning and is currently also running on LPG.
I am hoping to find someone to convert my Kombi to Subaru power.. So far I have not been able to find anyone who has done a conversion to my model
Auto Kombi.
Or if some one is willing to assist with the manufacturing of a shortened sump to still keep it close to the original oil capacity, engine mounts,
exhaust system and aluminum welding.

look up RJES conversions in the UK they do a conversion bellhousing and kit, top quality and quite comoarable if not cheaper than the flywheel and
adaptor plate style option.I have an RJES kit on my 2ltr box to a EJ25.

He already has the adaptor plate - no point going to the RJES bellhousing - which is for manual transmissions anyway.
Reversed gears for Subaru transmissions.

Id DEFINETLY get the Smallcar engine mount system!! That will make the conversion easy as....also one of their sumps and the exhaust while you're at
it,then it will basically be a bolt in conversion.

Thanks for all your comments, which are much appreciated, however my 89 Kombi has an automatic gear box. I have spoken to CustomVeeDub and they
don't seem to cater for Automatic gear boxs. Before installing the EJ22 Subaru motor in my kombi, I thought it would be best to replace various seals
and cam shaft drive belts and the water pump. I mention this as it seems that the Smallcar engine mount appears not to suit the new style water pump.
Also seeing the EJ22 is to mount up to my automatic gear box and I wish to shorten the sump and still keep the oil capacity close to original, this
means the sump needs to be extended at the sides but not at the drive plate end. if it was extended at the drive plate end it would not be possible to
install the 3 bolts needed to join the drive plate to the torque converter. So far I have not found anyone who makes such a sump, only sumps that are
suitable for a manual gear box. To over come this, I am thinking of extending the sump at the cam drive belt end.

The smallcar sump fits with the auto.They sell the whole kit to mount an Auto to Subaru. A friend has one and he has no problems that I'm aware
of....

Yes the SmallCar mount is tight around the water pump on some engines, but they still fit.

Thanks MickH for your reply. The URL, you directed me to was interesting, but unfortunately I do not know how to see the photos mentioned, which would
be good. It would be great to be able to see the wedge that mackaymanx made up. Or If he could make more. I think it would allow the engine to be a
little higher ie more ground clearance and better clearance in the engine bay.
Thanks for all the info but so far there have not been any replies from S.A. I am hoping to find someone to convert my 89 Kombi to Subaru power.. So
far I have not been able to find anyone who has done such a conversion to my 89 model Auto Kombi.
Hopefully I will get to see the photos, every bit helps. Thanks to all. |

Smallcar do the whole kit for an Auto.
Their stuff is good and tested.
The three of us following your thread have used their engine cradle,sump,exhaust and other stuff.
The auto conversion is the same as a manual conversion,except you have to use the adapter plate and VW flex plate and starter.

I can't remember the business name but there used to be a VW mob at Lonsdale that did some conversions a few years ago.
