Tube frame sand buggy

Noticed this in a storage yard for an engineering place around the corner from my place.

It's a tube frame buggy with Kingpin front Custom IRS rear with KOMBI? or TYPE 3? Torsion bars I think. Has quite large rear brakes. Are they Kombi? or Type 3?

Looks to have a lot of surface rust but appears solid underneath. Fibreglass bonnet and roof.

It's a 2 seater and has a 3 rib Kombi box and what he claims is a 1200 engine but it has twin port heads and a dog house cooler so I would suspect 1600cc Minimum. It hasnt been sealed up well and in the elements for what looks like a couple of years under a loose tarp.

Anyway I had a chat to a guy at the yard and he gave me a number for the owner. I had a chat to him, he said it was a project that he started with his father a while ago. Said he ran out of money before painting it.

He said he might be interested to sell if I made an offer.

Any idea what it's worth? I dont know what I would do with it. It would be cool to have if I wasnt already commited to building my Baja. But if its going cheap I would like the gearbox and brakes etc.

Yep, kombi rear end grafted into a homemade frame would be my guess.

Whats the going price of scrap steel per tonne?? Start from there.
Bit of a wire brush and some welding and that should be a good litter buggy.
