That looks good, and about the right price but my car is wider than the bed on the trailer, it measures 1650 from the outside of the rear tyres.... my
car has ghetto booty! If I can get something around 1500 on the road, or a bit less needing work.... Considering making one too. I have a 6x4 box
trailer I could work into the deal too?

It looks wider behind the axle. aslong your front isnt more than 1.6 it still shouls fit. Might be worth getting the guy to do a few measurments for
you. A hell of alot easier than building one

drive your bug on n as its front isn't wider than 1600 it should be sweet thru the arches
ask old mate for more details
well priced by the looks 
really 1.5k you'd be struggling for anything decent n this looks ready to go n it's down the road at the goldy too

you could always thro some skinnys on the rear for transport n back it up??
I have a tandem n I always roll em up forward n works well for me
but as I said I have a tandem..

I'm with h... I reckon go this one and modify at the back.
As to weight at the back... well expect you'll end up with a toolbox up front with tools, jack etc. in it, and that'll balance it out pretty
nicely.
Will all depend what it's like to tow really really... from the side on pic looks as tho the axle is moved back a bit anyways, which is a bit in
it's favor too I think.

Yeah Mick, looks good to me, but you must get the balance right. It does look close to being right to put the car on fwds to me/
My trailer is similar size, older and uglier and I paid $1600 a few years back.

I think the axle needs to be a little further back, my single axle trailer was specifically made for VWs and looks a bit further back (Mick the one
you took to Warwick a couple years ago) and it is perfect to tow with. Have a look at the Formula Vee website they often come up cheap on there. My
first trailer was an old formula vee trailer and it fitted the beetle nicely.
As for single vs dual - we have both and the single is always the trailer of choice for the smaller cars.
For price comparison I think mine was just under 3k new with electric brakes, alloy ramps etc.

Yep, single for me. I like the lightness overall as I tow with my T3. (the tyre rack I cut off and I have to put the car on backwards. My first
trailer I had built specially for a beetle and now after rethinking it, as others have said above, the axle may need to be back a little further.

Thanks for the pic Matt, i had a look on the formula vee forum... as it turns out this trailer is advertised there also. It looks like at some point
it was used for a vee. How much would it cost in materials to build a car trailer? when you add up steel, wheels, brakes, axles, springs, electrical,
all the bits and pieces..... then you have the added hassle of the dreaded transport dept plus rego??? Is it gonna come in much under 1600 or so?

It's been a long while since I had my new trailer built. My guess is that a new axle with electric brakes, all the hardware and necessary bits plus
materials to fabricate your own would be over the $1600. Rod R had a flatbed tandem axle built not long ago and I was surprised that it wasn't more
exxy. You may wantg to give him a call for some ideas of cost to go that way, or Pete, he recently did a major rebuild on his.

Rather than moving the axle back, could it just be balanced out by putting a tool box or something up front like dave said?

I don't like to add weight for balance, defeats the purpose, and if the box is empty the trailer becomes unsafe. After another look, it does look
short, and the draw bar is best going back to the fwd spring hanger, without that I believe the draw bar may crack....but if you low ball you may
modify to suit. You need to also check weight capacity.

OK, so after all this talk about that ebay trailer i'd like to make the point that i am still looking for a car trailer and i do have a 6x4 box
trailer recently re furbished to sell or throw into the deal if any one is interested....

Extra short trailers may be light in wait but car is over hanging at bath ends . I hate that ! becouse if you have a rear ender , the
race car is also smashed into as well ( it happen to me many years ago ).
Trailer bed needs to be longer then car ( around 4meters) . Check out ebay , will give you a Idea on prices for a complete trailer and parts to build
one .
Just remember the trailer is carry your pride of joy ( $$$$$your race car )
If you decide on building one , happy for you to check mine out .
