What engine is this? WA VW Club.

The WA VW Club has an old Type 1 pan and engine etc., that has been sectioned for display.

I'm in the process of mounting it onto a trailer for ease of transport.

The pan number is 1780041, which is a 1954.

The engine number is 20-0994741. I can't find that number in Muir.

Can someone please tell me what year, capacity, HP etc., the engine is?

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Lee.

It's a bit confusing.

For a 1954 pan thare is a dash after the first 1, so it's a 1958. It looks older. There are no bump stops on the rear shock absorber towers.

The engine is definitely an old one.

The carby is a Solex 28 PCI, with no electric gizmos on it and the generator stand is cast integrally with the casing.

You can't find it cos you're looking in the wrong area ;)

20- means it's a splitty 36hp engine not a bug.

A quick gander on TheSamba puts that around early 55

Thanks joel,

The info is in Muir. I just didn't look in the Type 2 section.
