Why not just get yours re-hooped?

When you say re-hooped, do you mean taking the centers out and putting them into a new rim wall to get the width??

yep, thats what he meant
are you wanting to keep the smoothie look or do you mind slotted centres.
Because there are cheap 5.5 inch 356 style wheels around.

I want to go back to the original style rims again with flappers and smoothie hubcaps. I can get 15 x 5.5 rims from most places ($70ea) from
Wolfsburg Automotive in Melb, but I want something a touch wider to fill the rear guards, so maybe something around the 7inch mark in width. I know
it seems a bit far fetched as they non-standard sizes are very hard to find. I may have to compromise and just buy the 5.5.

You might be able to get these cheap, and get your centres put in at the correct offset that you're after.
