20 year wait to get Beetle!
Hi all I have finally got myself a 66 Beetle after waiting 20 years through various reasons.
From what I know(only had 2 days)
It has 2" narrowed beam with adjusters on it.
adjustable spring plates
a 1600 with 1300 gear box(with no clutch!) throw out bearing failed on way home....
Very faded paint
came with free rust!
135's on front
155's or 165's on rear I believe
has Empi valve covers, exhaust, distributor and breather
Drives pretty good though a little bouncy!
major plans ahead just have to get a new clutch fitted first and get over the purchase first!

It looks Ok apart from the paint job...
some of the early clutch bearings were just made from carbon
and didn't actually spin around like a bearing... so made a noise when they worn down..
the clutch cable could have broken... if the pedal goes to the floor...
these are not expensive ...

alloy timing pulley on crankshaft ..
rear bumper in great shape.. front good.
chromed alternator... 12 VOLTS..
wiper arms may be on wrong sides...
welcome to the world of VWs...

Lee you will be surprised to know I live in Aberdeen 10k from you lol. Would be great to chew your ear over Beetles some time. Thanks for heads up on
clutch info.
I believe the bumpers are near new repo jobs.

I saw a late model beetle going thru aberdeen on Friday morning
can't remember what color??
gave a wave..
it looks like Your engine is a 1600 single port engine...
If the front is narrowed too much You may NOT have any shock absorbers on there ..
which makes them very bouncy.. lol
or You need new shock absorbers.. lol
roads in the Upper hunter are too rough for no shocks lol
as You know... or worn shocks...
Your beetle has no heaters either... lol
the fan shroud is a non heater type... unless the old 6 volt type system is on this engine???

Hi lee pretty sure it still has shocks. Just way too low!
Yeah I was told it was a 1600 single port. And no heaters may not even put em back in either!
It's running 12v.

Rat with Gold tooth!!!
My awesome fiancee got santa to put these under the christmas tree
Since getting my beetle I have had to fit new clutch as previous owner had a new style pressure plate with early throw out bearing which was a time
bomb! which went off on the way home after purchase!
Got that sorted but have discovered a couple of head studs are pulling through the cases causing oil leaks! Going to get some time serts or case
savers from scat to fix it. the other bonus has been scoring a 63 shell on a rusty old pan for free! this shell is in nicer condition then my current
rust bucket so going to restore it then remove my shell, refurb my pan then swap bodies.

Hi all,
Been slow on progress with my beetle. Christmas knocked my funds big time!
When I replaced the cultch I noticed bad oil leak at base of cylinders. I thought it was just push rod tubes....I was wrong! It was leaking from
cylinder head studs!!! Pulled threads in the cases. So motor out again and repair the threads. I used time-sert thread repair kit as have used them in
the past and have with the results. Going to convert it to twin port so more updates will follow. Waiting to get flywheel locking tool to remove
flywheel so I can finish stripping it down for cleaning.
