Advice about Selling VW Super Bug L Parts
Hey there,
I've not posted on this site before, but i'm hoping i can get a bit of advice before listing parts for sale.
I recently rode off my 73' Beetle. Its left side and the left side of the roof has been crushed.
However, everything else about the beetle still works, infact I can still start it first try and drive it around if it was allowed.
I want to try get the most from the remains of my baby and I'm hoping you guys can help.
Should i try sell the car as is? Or try sell all the bits off separately? I would like to try get like $3000min. Based on the work i had done to the
car before I flipped it.
I've attached photos of the damage. The other side is completely undamaged.
Give it to me straight.

Even if you could suggest a sales method, if not here, to try and get my goal amount of $$ that would be awesome.

shame to see - hope you and anyone in it at the time are ok?
did you get an insurance payout and was it covered for the cost/build price?
after that sripping it and selling off in parts will gain you the most amount of return but with that comes the hasstle of stripping it, storing
parts, postage etc etc
and then you'll be left with some scrap to get rid of - selling it whole is easier but usually get less and less people who can take on a whole
car
looking at the pics you've probably got a running engine (dunno what size or specs). a gearbox, an interior I guess and some bits n bobs lights
indicators window winders steering wheel etc
all up you might get around $1500 in bits but again you'd need to pull it apart etc which costs time, tools etc

Thanks, everyone was ok 
I didn't have it insured for the amount I had spent on it, just what i originally bought it for, so i would like to try get some money from the
Engine and such.
The interior was completely redone, and rust cut out, so very little rust remains.
The engine was reconditioned in '09, and yes, everything else still works.
Its just the body which is damaged.
So if someone was handy, you could probably try turn it into a convertible.

Doh, bummer !!!
Sorry to say, but kinda doubt you'll get $3,000 selling as a complete car... drivable L's go for less and they've often had just as much spent on
them.
Parting is probably going to give you best chance, but will depend on what parts are in it and what condition. Engine, gearbox and interior are the
big ticket items obviously, and details will really help.
I reckon posting up your suburb and state would be a good start in finding people who are interested.

I'm in Queensland, in the Logan area.
I will have to ask the vw mechanic who worked on the car the past 5 years the details/conditions of the parts.
If parts is the way to go, i bought myself a new 74 L so ill see what i need for that and then sell the rest.

Other items that are worth money
*steering box
*pitman arm
*wind screen
*uncracked dash
*bonnet - especially square cut front
* VW propper chome bumpers (not Brazillian / Mexican)
The trouble is going to begetting it pulled out
Good chance if you take your time you will get cloase to the $3,000 in parts
A full turnkey motor with a health check is close to $1,000

My suggestion would be to get your replacement L Bug.
Then see what bits you may need. Including what a good VW mechanic can find that needs replacing.
Then swap amy easy bits you think are better.
Then if you have to get rid of it quick, try $2000 with receipts showing the mechanical conditions. If you have to get more, you will have to pull it
apart. I would think that you will struggle to get $3000, good on you if you do.

Yeh, im taking the new one in on Friday to have a full service. Hopefully it doesnt need much done.
Im going to ask the mechanic his opinion on prices and item conditions.
I have an extensive book of all expenses over the past 8yrs. So it would be very easy to provide receipts.

was jsut saying that is maybe a price for an L-bug box
if you know its good
someone here wants one regularly
steering in these is rack &pinion so a nicer feel and ride due to it
so front end maybe in demand also
(ball joint mac struts)
you could discount it a bit if buyer pulls out the parts
