Buggy Chassis Number
Hi -
Questions when Transferring a buggy interstate.
Just a couple of questions Im curious about which Im hoping some of you might know before I spend hard earned cash ?
The buggy I'm looking at is from SA and is registered as a Volkswagen Tourer as that's what they did back then for buggies in SA and they didn't
record the chassis number either. Only engine number
If the buggy has never been registered in the gaining State before in beetle or buggy form, can they tell what year the chassis is ? I know us VW
enthusiasts can straight away via the chassis number and our books but how do they tell if there is no data plate ? Or are they not that worried with
custom vehicles ?
Do they have a computer program that tells them what year it is when chassis number is typed in ?
Or do they just type the chassis number into their comp and as long as no flags are raised its all good and recorded from then on ?

Hi vwdubber, firstly the best thing you can do is ask the rego mob where you are, they will tell you up front what they can and can't do. In the end,
the only thing that matters is what they say.
When I rego'd my buggy a few years ago, they went to use the chassis number on the rear of the tunnel - no other data plate in the car. As the
number was feint they ended up allotting a new chassis number to the car and we bashed it into the tunnel near the old number.

Hi vwdubber.
The touring registration is a curious phenomenon, and it would be a shame to see it handed back.
If you need any assistance at this end, feel free to contact me on 0412 749 002.

Phil.
