Rainex
a mate has recomended a product called Rainex to put on the windscreen, said it gives much better vision in the rain, anybody know of it? used it? any
for or against issues?
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

Many of the sedan circuit racers use it as their wipers are often ineffective. I've tried it in my windscreen washer water and, at the recommended
dosage, it didn't make a huge difference. I concluded that you need a *lot* of it to make a significant difference.

Rainex rocks as far as I'm concerned, but never seen a version of it you put in the washer bottle.
The way it's normally done is to coat the windscreen when it's dry... you pour a bit on and spread it around, and the windscreen goes cloudy... then
you sort of buff it back to clear. A bit like applying polish I guess.
Do it on my car before any event it looks like will rain at, as makes a huge difference at speed... tiny little Beetle wipers are useless at 100+
!!!

I have used rain ex, from what i understand it leaves a silicon layer over the windscreen, whcih helps water bead and run off the screen. I have been
told and seen, that if you use it, then use twipers heavily, you will smudge and wear it off. Its good for motorsport, as allot of people run it and
don't put the wipers on until the last minute when its really needed.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I've used it on all my cars, you can drive down the highway in the rain and not have to use your wipers. The water turns to tiny droplets and roll
straight off the screen. I've only seen it to apply directly to the screen, not an additive to the washer bottle

Rainex is great. It stops water droplets staying on the screen, and mist from forming inside.
If you have a motorbike, you would be very wise to put it on your helmet visor.
On your car it enables you to drive at cruising speed without using the wipers, and the mist also doesnt form on the inside.
Available anywhere car wash products are available.

Yes, and they both work well. No. 8 Beetle has no wipers, only Rainex.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

The windscreen on my L bug is really trashed and I will replace it (one day).
In the meantime I gave rainex a go.
The milky sheen is gone and visibility is heaps better.
The wiper blades now glide instead of bouncing around.
Oh, and the water beading off is a bonus.
Great stuff!

I use the stuff that you apply directly to the windscreen on all my cars - brilliant. I find that if you apply 2 or even 3 coats within a few minutes
of each other that it works even better.
I do a lot of 100km/h driving and never have to use the wipers when it is raining... visibility is actually better on the white concrete sections of
the M1 with only rainex than it is when you use the wipers. I have also found that it initially makes removing squashed bugs (insect kind) from the
windscreen much easier, but you have to wipe them off ASAP otherwise they seem to react with the rainex and 'set' making them almost impossible to
remove after a couple of hours in the sun (much harder than if you have not used Rainex). Has anyone else noticed this?
As mentioned above - it does wipe/wear off over time, faster if you use the wipers. The angle of the windscreen has a big effect as to what speed it
really starts to work. The more upright the screen the faster you have to be moving before the effect of rainex can be seen. My company car (a Getz)
you need to be doing just under 50km/h before the water rolls off the entire screen, on my Bay Kombi you need to be going around 65 before the centre
of the screen clears (the sides clear at around 40km/h).
Worth doing.

I've been using using it for years on all our cars
I love it eggspecially at night as I often don't bother to put the wipers on as they just affect my concentration, impair my vision and basocally
annoy me

since asking on here I have spoken to a few others about rainex, seems it's good on the bathroom shower screen as well, bought some yesterday as well
as the anti mist one, that should be good for the buggy.

Rainex is Great. ONLY use it on Forward-facing exterior glass (yellow box).
There is an interior type (black box), for anti-fogging, also. (Can be used on all interior glass).

The other good thing about Rainex is.....if you don't want it to rain, just Rainex the windscreen, and it will not rain - try it!
