Fire extinguisher location in a Beetle
I have a 1kg fire extinguisher that I have procured, and I am wondering what locations people have fitted them? I have decided that the passenger
floor just in front of the seat is good. It gives access for driver and passenger, and is out of the way. The positions on the side of A pillar and
under dash looked to be in the way.
I am not planning on using it, it is just cheap insurance. I already have all fuel lines and fittings secure and renewed in the engine bay, and fuel
filter fitted up under near fuel tank.

Pete, I fabbed up a bracket that fits the extinguisher to the seat frame just behind my feet. That way it moves back & forth with the seat. got
the idea from a porsche website.

I just copied other people and placed it front of the gearshifter
I have seen others located just inside the LHD...
which is much better than in the boot....
in front of the seats sounds great.....

Mines on the passenger side A pillar, doesn't seem to get in the road.

I put it in the spot where Bizzare has his. I didn't want to drill holes in the original floor mat on the tunnel.
I have just drilled two holes in the plate in front of the seat runners. I have to take the extinguisher out to slide the seat out, but I don't take
the seat out very often.

I've heard horizontal is better than vertical to keep the powder loose, is that dinkum?

I'd say...yep, fair dinkum.
Also good every 6 months or so to remove from holder and give the extinguisher a shake for the same reason.

having it in front of the gearshifter means its shaking the extinguisher up every time You brake.. lol
I have found that some of the newer fire extinguishers aren't really made to be mounted in a car as their holding method isn't too good. plastic
instead of metal..
very flimsy and some are very difficult to undo..

That's where the genuine VW brackets fit. I have one but it doesn't fit Transporters.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

You can buy ones with twin metal straps. they are aimed as the CAMS requiremtns.
I prefer the passenger footwell. If the straps become loose and its on the tunnel in front of the gear shift, it may fall around the pedals......
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I have seen some cheap ones that are held to a bracket [plastic?] with what looks like some sort of cable tie, but You can brake it with Your hands..
so that doesn't sound good if You are upside down and the extinguisher is above You!!!
or whether they will stay put if You are hit side on by another car...
after all this... I may go and check mine again.. and maybe stick an extra strap over it...
You can get the metal top part extinguishers refilled...
they don't do the ones with plastic tops and triggers etc...
