Dash air vents

Hello,

I've a 1971 Superbeetle and I've tried in vain to get a few minor parts. The dash is Aussie and so not padded. I want the three air vents that click into it but I'm not so good at finding them. Then there is the engine bay liner. I think I found some in the states but wondering if any closer are available.

Where do you guys look for bits?

Finally. I really fancy chopping an old bug in half and making a trailor out of it. Does anyone know where old dead bugs go to rest so I can resurrect one ... well part of it!

:)

Thanks

Hi and welcome to AVD.

Not sure where you are, but try Vintage Vee Dub (02) 9789-1777 in Sydney.

Kev

Edit: Just realised you are in WA, I think they are open today if you still want to call.

I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

You're only hope with the side vents is European suppliers.

Center one isn't a problem but the side ones for a non padded dash were a 71-72 only deal in only a few countries.

There is threads on most forums with people chasing them, most just cut down the padded dash style ones which looks like a hack.

Someone in Europe is reproducing the 68-70 beetle ones but not 71-72 unfortunatley.

Good second hand ones are you're best bet.

the outer ones also went into the dash for fresh air

so two outlets.. from each side ?

center was just a defroster outlet?
how wide was this one?

Thanks for the first up replies. It's good to have feedback from those in the know. I had suspected my dash/vents were uncommon and now I know why!

I called Vintage Wee Dub Supplies (thanks Camo) but they dont have the vents unfortunately. My search continues. If you see any good second hand dash vents Joel, please send them my way! Yes, 68Autobug, the two outlets one each side (I suspect L/R are different), the centre is just standard defroster so is not so much of an issue. I do have something there already but it is home fabircated.

Here is a picture of the dash.
