Got mine on the left inner guard of the engine bay, just where the fuel line enters the engine bay.

Looking good by the way.

^^^^ cheers fellas
engine is strong, with the 2 ltr box and the C35 cam it has some punch in 1st n 2nd.
still getting a tiny backfire on decelartion so I have 2 days off and pulled the engine last nite to just check it over.I do have a wee issue I found with #1 carb (air leak) so going to fix thaat and whack in some diff jets to try n fix the backfire.

The ride height, hrmmmm yeah not sure if I have the smarts to lower the front, never done it before so a lil put off by the process.Rear is fine , I'm happy to dump the rear but need some one to help me walk thru doing a front

Back-fire will be exhaust leak, not jetting

it feels as if its dumping too much fuel when you get off the gas pedal at let it roll down to idle/stop.

Ive tried to locate a an exhaust leak but havent been able to pick it up,In sayinbg that though the #1 carb when coved by my palm does not choke up and fail, it still runs as normal, It does have slight suction but not enough to foul the carb completly.....

I have always wanted to change the j pipe config and how it is connected/bolted with those crazy clamps so I may just play with that too. HELLOOOOOOOOO welder

I liked the set up of the other muffler that didnt use J pipes and those worthless clamps.

POP QUIZ---------> just took the manifolds off the heads, I look down into the cylinder head ports and > BAM< like about a teaspoon of fuel just lazing about there, like a lil pond of fuel lost. Is this a nono?

well, I gave the j pipe clamps one last chance. Had to drive down the coast this morn after re-clamping ,tightening the muffler system and still getting backfire. Thats it !!......bye bye clamps I'm pulling out the TIG welder and making my own changes.
Its def coming out of the muffler and not the carbs so its gotta be the clamps...... just gotta be.

sounds like there is an issue with your carb if there is raw fuel just pooling there

Get a flange kit. Best thing you will ever do.
I( had a flanged exhaust.
Went to a clamped system - never again
Flanged joints forever

yeah, see on my last ute I had the flange arrangement, like in the image which was sweet.... and this unit is the one with the dumb ass j pipe clamp system.

So I'm about to make mine into a flange clamp up, got the flanges already so its TIG time :-) I'm pretty much going to copy VS, weld up where the clamps go and cut/weld in flanges close to the J pipe bend.

the carbs, well yeah I'm sure it's just dumping way too much fuel in at idle time

No wonder it leaks it has more joints than a nimbin mothers meeting , get rid of the flanged joint for the rear cylinders just above the muffler too.
And check your fuel pressure as it sounds like your flooding the cylinders which will not be good on a fresh motor , ie washing all the oil of the bores .

I did actually contemplate that after the test fit, may just do that tomorrow.

How hard is it to wrap muffler tape?...is it worth it?..After driving from the goldie to brissie the rear apron is fugging HOT! ...like cook an egg on HOT, so I was thinking about wrapping the pipes and see if that helps. Is that overboard?.

The fuel dumping is driving me crazy, checked and rechecked float level, checked and dropped fuel PSI to see if that would help but nahhhhhhh...... I have used the weber upgrade kit and I know it works a treat but just seems this engine just doesn't like it.

track is cool, a few changes but overall its sweet to ride. Nearly died several times, massive bar hump over the stoopid last jump and squealed like a girl in front of crowds.... thats was fun!!
Didn't see anyone I know from old days but did see KOVARIK there and maltman apparently making a comeback of sorts.
Raced the wrong class (vets) but got 6th out of 9 I think, truly 3 years since being on a DH bike.......wow, how much you forget and how cautious you become....
