surface rust a little more than skin deep?
hi guys just a quick question....
i was cleaning my car the other day and noticed a fair bit of surface rust in the sills / gutters? (the piece of metal that channels the water on the
roof of the bugs... the rust seems to get a little worse towards the back near the engine) also a few tiny bubbles on the bottoms of the doors..
i finally saved enough $$ to get my car dropped and some wheels and was planning to get a new motor in by the end of the year.. is this rust something
to be worried about? should i sort it before i do the engine?
i'm paranoid now

Mate - its a 40-50 year old car
Unless you have done a bare metal, dipped and treated paint job - stop worrying
Yes, its a concern, but it isnt structural or in the A pillars or on the top side of the C pillars
I would get a scribe and have a dig around, then get some fish oil or anti-rust or whatever and give it a seal.
Then get some White Knight anti rust pain and give it a touch up
Thats my suggestion

Easy mate, rub it back treat it with rust disolver then rust converter then an expoxy white paint with zinc in it for rust prevention and she'll be
sweet for another few years atleast.

You can get low odour fish oil from supercheap auto and the like, or get penetrol from bunnings and the like.
Penetrol sets hard and fishoil stays as an oil. They both basically block moisture and air getting in to rust further.
Need to be renewed every year at least, and they are a slow down preventative only, not a fix.
Have a poke around, if you finger does not go through the metal anywhere then do your mechanicals and slow the rust. The car won;t fall apart around
you.
