What gauge works best?
doing a bit of gauge shopping but not sure which ones to look at.
are the tach and speedo mechanical or short sweep or something else even? also is it possible to fit oil pressure / temp gauges and what bits do i
need other than the gauges themselves?
its for a '69 1500 single port, but i want to keep this setup for a new dual port motor when i get one. is there a difference in how speed and rpm
are sent in these engines? i have points at the moment but i am thinking about getting electronic ignition put on the 1500. will it make a difference
to gauge choice?

Speedos are mechanical cable driven off the front left wheel.
Tachs are easy, just hook the signal wire to the low tension terminal on the coil.
Oil pressure just get a Tee piece that fits where the idiot light sender was so you can refit it and the new gauge sender.
they can be swapped to any other VW engine, blocks are the same but you have to watch the thread, VW use a M10mm thread where as universal senders are
imperial tapered 1/8"npt.
They do fit but if you overtighten them you will damage the case.
easiest way to fit a temp gauge is get a dip stick sender but screw in ones can be fitted in a few spots, just don't use the drain plug or sump
plate, they aren't accurate.
