Low Blown 64 beetle
My first VW,
Really wanted a low light Kombi (splitty out of my budget) even drove to sydney to buy one but backed out. Ended up with this.
It was bone stock other then a adjustable beam, over the last few months have done new interior, cleaned up wiring, front bushes, wheel bearings,
shockers etc, boring stuff.
Then got it as low as i could that was still drivable without airbags, got it to the stage it doesn't bottom out on even big bumps. Scrubs when
turning because its a standard width beam but I can put up with that as i don't like the narrowed beam look.
Then got bored again and thought i would put a blower on it. Couple nights in the shed and I had it all on and tuned making 6-7psi. Goes heap better
although will put a 34 pict carby on in the next week or so, think this will make a fair bit my difference.
Was think of selling it and looking for a low light (or splitty maybe) but still a bit unsure.

I like it, but imagine how much better it will go when you fit a belt to that blower
Sweet ride, don't sell now you have done all this.

Do you think you have enough belt engagement on your generator?looks like it will slip with out to much effort.

I was more worried about the slip on the blower
At night with lights etc on i don't seem to have a problem, i was going to put a tensioner on the left side but looks like i dont need to. I may have
to if i put a smaller pulley on the blower when i want more boost though.

Hi revs it would stall abit more than normal but if you've seen some of the old 12 volt conversions using ad on alternators some of them the belt
barely touches the pulley.
Is that a AMR500?

Yeah the AMR500
The car has about 4 lights so I'm guessing it doesn't do much, what do you mean it stalls?

It may seem like a silly question, but when you have the camber the way you do on the back, are there special tyres you can get that have an agled
tread, or do you just scrub out the inside much quicker than the outside?

I have made the arms so it reduced the toe in, which makes it drive so much better but yeah you wear about an inch or two of the tread
There's always a downside to looking cool but seriously i would do
about 1000kms a year in this thing

Sorry I meant slips.
Standard Vbelt arrangement starts to slip the belt at higher RPM.
With less belt contact this would be more of an issue but I'm guessing your not winding the old girl out to 4k at every set of lights?

You can hook them up to anything, depending on how much boosted you run can shorten the life.
My experience with boost cars is if you get the tune and timing right and don't be stupid with the boost the motors are fine.
These motors are so low comp you can get away with a bit, plus this has probably only added 20-30hp i'm guessing, so it's not that crazy

Not really anything, those little Aisin AMR blowers were only made for 3 cylinder 600-800cc Jap matchbox toy cars.
On a 1200-1300 VW engine double the size they are on their limits.
Keep the boost sensible and they will be fine but they have a habit of self destructing when people crank the boost up and try to run them on bigger
engines.

There really an aftermarket supercharger so you can put them on anything under 1600cc
On a low reving engine they are fine, can spin them to 16,000rpm so a bit over 2 to 1 on something like mine a 1300.
My pulleys 2 - 1 so only turning it under 10,000, looking at going a smaller pulley to get about 10psi.

Running anything to the max is going to shorten the life if its the blower or the motor

Really cool man, nice unmolested car. What blower is it?
I had a 1200 for years, always wanted to blow or turbo it, but everyone I spoke to had somthing differant to say. At the end of the day it was too
much of an unknown quanity to have on a daily (for my mechanical aptitude anyway).
Not "oldspeed" but almost period, great stuff dude.

It's an AMR500, google amr500 super charger they have a site in the usa.
Some people are scared of forced induction but i love it, if it blows you buy another motor for few hundred dollars
This was one of the easiest modifications i have done to any of the cars i have owned, it tool more hours to adjust the accelerator cable to have
enough throw then it did to do everything else.
I'm sure there is probably a better way to do what i have done but i was just playing around.
It now makes 9-10psi, no belt slippage, even wheel spins into second.................. in the rain hahaha
