Anyone want to do a Beer job?
My brakes on my beetle need bleeding as i have no brakes.
Anyone want to come over and bleed the brakes for me?
Ill pay in beer for the favour

not hard to do one man, though I'll probably get rocks thrown at me for this but I've done it a number of times. Get a length of clear plastic tube
to fit reasonably tight over the bleed nipple, fit one end of the tube over the bleeder and place the other end into a large glass jar with brake
fluid in it (make sure the end of the tube stays in the fluid), crack the bleeder and pump the brake pedel till no air bubbles are visible in the tube
then tighten the bleeder (you'll have to keep checking the tube to ensure there are no bubles) once you have done all bleeders check the pedal, it
should be good. Don't forget the master cylinder and start the bleeding from the furthest point from the master cylinder working towards the closest.
Takes a bit longer than with a mate but if you have to wait then the jobs done when he gets there and you can start on the beer together.

Some rubber washer hose will do, dont forget to top up the fluid resevoir. its easier to pump the brake pedal 10 times then check the res' and the
jar.
i use a small plastic soft drinks bottle, drill a hole in the lid a push the pipe thru it and if it falls over, no spills!
look at the surface of the fluid, no bubbles? move onto the next wheel. Its quite an easy job!

Maybe I got it wrong but I did not bother with the tube as I thought the only purpose was to provide a visual aid to see when the bubbles stopped.
By pumping the brake pedal and then getting someone to hold it down (a broom stick in my case) and letting the nipples off till the air stops
spluttering out. (repeat as neccessary) I tightened my brakes up at least 300% what they were. (They were pretty bad).
Slow to do by yourself but whole car done in an hour for me. I reckon about 20minutes with help.

Super Cheap Auto sell a one-man brake beeding kit for about $15. It's just a tube with a oneway valve on the end. Place it on the bleed nipple,
loosen the nipple, pump the brake until fluid fills the tube and there's no air bubbles in the tube, tighten the nipple, remove the tube, repeat
three times. Takes about 2-3 mins each wheel and you don't need a helper. Easy.

Just a tip it's a good idea to not bottom the brake pedal to the floor, especially on older cars, put a block of wood or your other foot under the
pedal.
The reason often on older cars the end of the master cylinder
is rough as the piston (well the seal) doesn't go there often.
Have stuffed master cylinders by bottoming out the pedal
bleeding brakes on older cars!
Anyone else had this happen?

Sides, while some of us would love to help out, the 4 day drive from Perth to Sydney is a bit much for a six pack. the absolute best I can do is offer

If the master cylinder [or wheel cylinder] is that bad, it should be in the bin, not the car.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

If i could drive the car i would but i cant as i have no brakes.
Its all good I understand everyone is busy and thanks for the advice ill just wait till my mechanic comes back from holidays.
