Steering column
Hi, when removing the steering column from my 67 bug some ball bearings fell out of the column when removed from the car.
I was wondering if you can replace this bearing with a sealed type bearing, or do people just fit the bearings back in to the column.
Or worse case the column is now stuffed?
I am not even to sure where they sit in the column as I did 'nt notice them until they fell out.

I don't think they are a sealed type of generic bearing...
a specially made bearing for beetles..
later ones were nylon I think with ball bearings...
but I've never pulled any out..
I'd try and stick the balls back in if the casing isn't broken?
with lots of grease...
I'm sure someone on here has pulled one apart??

They are a cup and cone bearing, if you have lost your balls you should be able to purchase some loose balls in the correct size from bearing service,
it should have a wire clip that holds the bearing together, clean it up and use some grease to hold the balls in place, then you can reassemble the
race, the column has a clip and spring that loads a inner bearing sleeve, this applies the load to the race, a old manual will have a exploded view.
