Color of paint, & re-sale value???
Hi,
I am in the process soon of stripping my bug and painting it.
But...
My friends keep saying "NOOOOOOO don't paint it Pink". 
They say it will effect the re-sale value in years to come if I wanted to sell it, but I have had my heart set on a nice metallic paint with a pearl.
I also don't want it to bee too much of a head turner.
Do you think it will make it difficult to sell?

a nice paint job can make it easier to sell, some colours will make it harder to sell as u are only aiming at a certain market but still i dont think
it will make it harder to sell if u change the colour. just do it properly and it wont be an issue..

mmmm..................I disagree
A standard colour beetle will be much easier to sell than a custom colour
A color change is also much harder to do.
Really needs to be a bare metal spray. Trying to get in all the vents is next to impossible.
A colour change where you open the doors and see different colour looks cheap and will definitely lower value
Yous is a curved screen 1303 and it is even harder with that dash
You are up for $5k - 10k for a decent spray.
Spend that money else where

Yeah, it will be bare metal once Im through with it. My father use to
work on VW's 45years ago and is a spray painter and a old fashioned panel beater. I will be preparing it for the paint job.

Paint is only original once. At least keep it original colour if you must paint it.

if you're doing a good job it shouldn't matter. i'd say pink would be hard to resell even if it was a first class job... although in saying that
people seem to manage to sell their pink geminis haha

Painting it pink will take thousands of dollars off the resale value, but if it's what you want then do it! You don't do up old cars for resale
value. Even if you have to give it away for free at the end, it's still cheaper than depreciation on a new car!

My 2cents,buy a copy of uniqe cars,Throughbred and Cssic Cars etc and thumb thru the for sale stuff.The price scale for cars at the top is unrestored
orignal and its all down hill from there.But its your car you can do what you want,but does the car warrant a "complete" strip and rebuild?it
dosen't look to bad in the photos.

Consider some neat side striping or painted pin strips in pink. That way the main colour, white or whatever will cover more people for resale? Look
into some classic VW car pics. Blue and white. Apricot and cream. Don't go Metallica unless you really have to its not a new car and metallics are
more 70s to 80s and newer

Hi
It looks like your car is Wattle yellow, it doesn't age the best. I'm not a fan of metallic paint, although a bug does look really great in metallic
paint.
It amazes me how many cars you see driving past with metallic paint and you can tell that they have had some panel work when under certain light the
colours on some panels don't match the rest of the car.
At the end of the day its your car so paint it any colour you decide, if you stay with Wattle make sure they get the colour mix correct, don't try to
match of an existing bit of paintwork. I saw a wattle bug one day that had been repainted and it looked mayonnaise.

I have actually decided to paint my beetle a metallic medium blue, to match the color of my siamese cats eyez. 
As I have been rubbing it back to bare metal. I had discovered that it was actually originally a blue, also thier had been a small fire under the back
seat, and a whole heap of matches were dumped into the back vents when i pulled it apart thats when I discoverd it. Was ShoCkInG!!!

Well Sam,
that is the first time I have ever heard of someone doing that
I just looked at your profile photo of you and your cat, and I must say - very nice. I can't wait to see the guy at the paint shop though when you
take your cat in and ask to have paint made to match his/her eyes
Good luck with it all and I don't think the colour you have chosen will depreciate the value at all. Do you have photos of the car in the members
ride section showing us all what you have been doing. We like seeing these cars evolve through the process of this type of work.

especially doors and guards... My Son painted My Beetle Mitsubishi silver grey metallic... which was odd as He always told Me never buy a metallic
painted car.. [any car]
[He is an auto spray painter by trade...]
Maybe its just easier to paint the whole car if its a beetle.??
a local had some of His Beetle painted and He got the color from under the licence plate lamp.. lol
where the sun had never been...
Ive never seen a Beetle in metallic original paint in Australia
but VW Germany did paint some beetles metallic in the 50s and 60s and 70s.. I wonder how much extra they charged..?
in the 70's in the USA they had some special beetle models that came in One or more metallic colours..

The question is, why would you spend so much time doing up your car when you're already thinking of selling it? Resale factor shouldn't even come to
your mind if you love your car.

To answer your question, yes pink would drop the resale value.
But my opinion is paint the car what YOU want it to be. Not what others think it should be, or what buyers may want in a few years' time.
You only live once and you only paint/restore very rarely. Make it what you want.

Hi
Have a good think before you put one of those sun roofs in, they are flat and the Beetle roof is curved, so you have to flatten your roof to make it
fit.

They aren't all completely flat, but there were some dodgy ones that were, which meant they never fit properly and the seals were crap and would
leak.

Hi
Lees looks flat and the one in Roses red 1500 that she runs at the super sprint has a flat one that ruins a really nice car.
Does the pink bug above a have factory steel one or one these pop up ones, the Aeros look good on it.

It doesnt have a factory sunroof, but the sunroof for it has a slight curve. Aero guards are fantastic, especially as they accommodate the factory
elephant foot tail lights for this L Bug so it was a good option.
The poor girl is sitting in Perth still at my parents place. Loved how the pink turned out, but unfortunately being a candy apple pink it fades super
quick and certain parts have now turned to silver. Would love to get her over to Brisbane and finish her off, repaint her in either silver or gun
metal grey and finish off the german look.
