starving of fuel 64 bug!!!

gday lads.
newbie queston here please dont shoot me down..
ive just noticed a heap of fuel pissing out of the fuel sender thingy on the top of the tank in my 64 bug.
she's coughing and spluttering whilst driving along, also the fuel filter has little to no fuel in it.
i've look under neath the car and the fuel line looks to be fine (no splits or crimps) and the carby looks to be in working order aswell.

any hint of thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

cheers bodie.

Even if the hoses look ok, just replace them anyway if you don't know how old they are.
They can look fine but be perishing internally, especially the stock braided stuff which you cant tell is splitting till it's soaked in fuel.

Hose is cheap and so are new filters.

Re. the coughing and spluttering first thing and easiest to check is crud in the idle jet.

The sender probably just needs a new gasket under it, but try tightening the screws up first.
