Did i find a early cabrio decklid?!


customer dropped this car off this week.. needing lots of love.. noticed the decklid had a couple of vents glassed over..

hmmm

No. The early vents are vertical, not horizontal.



I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Yes, early are vertical but they changed to horizontal from 1958 onwards.

Be thankful those are bolts and not needle point screws for the number plate, great for ripping your forehead open when people use screws.

Anyway decklid just has old grafted in pair of vents or punched in louvers, very common mod.

Genuine cabrio decklids had rain catcher trays spot welded in underneath and much bigger vents.

yeah only hit my head on those threads twice.

engine bay is much nicer now, but more focus was on king n links and steeringbox.. unbelievable amount of movement. whole car was a deathtrap.

Thanks for the pics joel. ill leave this decklid alone with now new light!
