75 supercharged superbug
hey i thought iid start this thread and document the process of my bug. Its a bone stock 75 superbug with all the things i wanted (irs, twinport 1600,
rack and pinion, orange paint haha)except it seems to be either jacked up at the front or lowered in the rear. Aims are as follows
- harder/lower springs
- slightly stiffer sway bars
- new less springy seats so im not bouncing/sliding around all the time
- torsion bar
- wider wheels so i have more rubber on the road
- a non slip steering wheel haha unlike the current plastic (i have sweaty hands haha)
- the engine was going to be a type four but after looking at parts/rebuild costs and then picking myself off the floor i have decided to go
supercharged stock 1600dp with the probability of some forged 87mm pistons and a worked head later on.
I have already ordered some lowered front springs from Industrial springs (who i have found awesome previously) so that it will hopefully even out my
current ridiculous commodore stance (nose up in the air ass close to the ground) and they should be coming tomorrow, slight concern being that it will
be to hard sprung at the front compared to the rears so we shall see. also pourchased is a lovely black leather silver spoked momo steering wheel,
just need a boss kit. i have also purchased a sc12 supercharger for 180 bucks as well as an xr6 turbo blowoff valve for a whopping $10. i have also
got some sheet metal to make up the custom manifolds and am currently hunting a DCOE carb for cheap. i am using Joel's setup so kudos to him for the
epic thread and documentation of the build excet i might make some minor tweaks. im thinking of making the carb manifold shorter so the carb sits
closer to the supercharger and ive been thinking about instead of just using a tbar i might try for a kind of merged y if anyone gets that? im new and
highly unknowledgable so any advice is wanted and welcome pleassseee!
cheers Alex

cheers i already had a peek at them and was thinking about it but wasnt sure about the flow for the blow through setup so it might just have the down
pipe as a slow curve j into the cross bar instead of both sides curving if that makes sense?

Hey Alex,
I think the head up arse down is the natural stance for a '75, mine does the same. I reckon there's close to 10cm between top of the tyre and lip of
the guard .... awaiting arrival of lowering struts. Bright appears to be the colour type of choice also .... green in my case.
Where are you located?

NICE bug
once you lower the front the bum will come up a bit
If that is not enough you just need to reset the torsion bars in the back. They will need new grommets anyway
I have a R&P 75L bug as well
here he is -
http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=36756&page=6#pid816501
If you go wider wheels on the front you will need thin springs
I run a 6" 205 tyre on the front
Futue te ipsum!!!

Nice car. I run 195/70R14 tyres all round on mine and they look good to me. 14" rims tend to be a lot more common for these on the second-hand
market. My '72 S Bug sat up very high as well, although someone had jacked up the back so that it was level! I've got the rear back down to stock
settings now, so this is how it sits on stock front springs.

That's about the height of mine at the front. Which with a grasshopper-green car really does make it look like a praying mantis!!!

It's just the joy of getting old, look around a show at most of the unrestored average run arounds, nose up arse down is how they nearly all sit.
40 odd years of all the weight sagging the arse just pulls the front higher and higher.
Resetting the torsion bars will help, if the back levels up abit more it usually drops the front.
The 74-75 2 bolt supers also sit up in the nose abit due to the upper spring cap design.
Swapping to the 71-73 3 bolt ones will drop it 1.5", one of the first mods I did to mine.

hey thanks alot everyone Bizzare i loved the thread yours looks pretty
clean! and waveman thats probably how much rubber ill be going for to start with so my springs arived today which seem to have about an inch and a half drop in them so i think i might try with your idea joel later
on down thew track and get the two bolts and then use the industrial springs in the two bolts. ive been thinking about the carb for the supercharger
as well and im not sure if i should invest in one of these http://lowbugget.com/main_page.html as the plan was always to make it up as cheaply as possible... but they look so
perrttttyyyyyy
