Beautiful square! What's the colour? And did you spray the fender beading first then fit the panels?

on page 1 in the engine photo you have 2 fuel fillters
get rid of them and buy decent ones .
as those cheap chinees ones have been known to break and leak (or crack with heat).
last thing you want is an engine fire .
it seems everyone usses them i have seen them come apart .
to save maybe $2 to $3 on good ones its not worth it

This car keeps getting better

Very good looking Squareback

All the extra Fastback chrome makes it look classy

I like the extra trim below the 1600 badge from a German 67 Squareback as well.

Done well.

Most people would know what makes it look different to other early Aussie Squarebacks.

And I would not lower it

I was just referring to all the extra chrome the Aussie Fastbacks had in and around that year.

Over riders, mustashe, wrap around indicators and long rear reflectors.

I think all those things add to Elanora to make her look classy

Fastback chrome is probably not a good description because other models had some or all of that chrome as well of cause:)

Thats what I thought till a few years back because I had never owned an early notch or Squareback and had looked at the German made cars in the American and English VW mags.

Aussie made Notchs and Squarebacks never had that stuff till the CKD cars came in 69 except 63s had the over riders.

I'm not trying to nit pick Elanora. One of the best Type3s I've seen in Australia thats for sure:cool:

I don't want to hijack this thread.

I've been looking for quite a few years for anything that has evidence that Aussie made Notchs and or Squarebacks where made with that extra stuff before the 69 CKD cars came.

The only cars I've seen with that spec are German made fully imported ones like the 1500s, 1600L ect.

empi or anyone else if you have any info with Higher spec Aussie made Notchs and Squares between 64 and 68 can you start a new thread so we all can learn about them.

That would be great and thanks Matty.

It sure looks great Matt. All the external chrome is as Burrelli says, from the 66 on Fastback. Much better looking than that "plane Jane" trim on Notches and Squares 1964-1968. I owned one of these when it was only 3 years old! and have photos somewhere of that SB. I have to admit that it turned out to be one of the rustiest Type 3s I've owned. Back then I did likewise and added most of the "S" trim on the outside as there were plenty of Fastys already totalled in the yards. There were Notches around which also had Fasty trim transplanted so it was good to see it on all models when 1969 came around. Different paint jobs came out of Clayton but not the trim. Maybe some dealers added the bonnet trim but I doubt if they'd change the front guards for the wraparounds........ etc etc.

Would have liked to catch up wuth some of the Melbourne Type 3 crowd in January but a leg infection had me grounded at Southbank
