car camera
Looking at buying an on board camera for my car, I know SFA about these things but have been steered towards this one, any coments from those who
know, obviously I wouldn't expect to get it at the price shown

Get the GoPro Hero camera for sure. I have seen what my brother in laws have got from motor bike riding, and the results are pretty good. Plenty of
support for accessories.
Type in Gopro on eBay and have a look

Donn,
the camera in your link is more of a driving monitor for if you have an accident or something and it records all the time you are driving (if set up
that way). If you are quality recording for playing back racing etc, go the GoPro as helbus said.

I'd go a GoPro for sure!
The only down side I've found with them, is they aren't that flash when filming at dusk & night unless there is plenty of light.
I've got 2 GoPro's & probably get another one. They are awesome at car events etc. with multiple camera to share across your car & others to
get some cool footage.
Then all you need is some good video editing software (or free software in my case), spend some time having a play around with it & you'll be
making some cool video's in no time!!

Another option is a Contour camera, which I've read are pretty good with low light filming.
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. |

that cam is very poor resolution.
gopro is good, very good  As said contours are good also, now
with gps
new kid on the block here http://www.racerecall.com/replay-xd1080-p-156.html has less 'fisheye' than go pro and has far superior mount. i work
with on board cams in race cars/boats, go pros can end up getting knocked off due to size and poor mounting point on the case. also subject to
flutter/wave in image when bumpy.
if its just for the car as per the ebay advert there are others more suited and easier to use with lcd screens

I have a contour HD and would highly recomend it to others. I went with the contour because of its shape and size, its very well suited to being
helmet mounted. Ive used gopro and the contour and would say picture quality is about the same on both.
Mines survived snowboarding, motorcross, bmx, road cycling and much more.

There are two main levels of camera from when I have been looking.
The standalone camera, of which the Go-Pro HD2 seems to to be the best. They have a good frame rate etc. There is a motorsport start pack with
relevant clamps for attaching to cars. Also you can get the right accesories to have them powered by 12V from the car, plus in the future you should
be able to control them from a wireless device such as a iphone etc so you can switch them all on at once and not need to walk around the car before
each run. The GoPro seems the best value for money, as I think the motorsport pack is $399? Standalones require more editing etc
The next level up are the recer recall etc style systems. These are either multi camera or single. Most of them will also have a GPS and many will
connect into a ECU. These are the snazzy ones which have inbuilt PiP and also hav ethe little dashboard on the bottom of the screen. The editing I
think was far better and some come with their own software. But they are expensive with most over $2,000......
As the GoPro has now got more featrues I will probably buy 1 or 2 for my car when i get back ti aussie. Seem the best value for money.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I have sold over 300 Gopros not one warenty issue they are excellent as for what model dont bother with the Gopro2 the older HD version is almost as
good and half the price. Mitchell
23 windows ...8 too many!

Ps the BMSC (Brindebella Motorsport forum and I think the excel rally series forum) had a good dcussion on the different camera and experince with
each system.
I have had a racer recal in one car (not my car) and it was great, but this was about 5 years agao, when it was still recording to a camcorder rather
then digital.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
