"Accesories" setting on 74 Beetle ignition
Is there an "accesories" position on the ignition switch of a 74 beetle? (Stock 1300 bug)
The key turns one click from the lock position and nothing happens electrically that I can find. (Don't have a wiring diagram that matches my
car either.)
The second click is ignition on and then further to start.
Is the first click supposed to provide power to anywhere or is it just to release the steering lock without the ignition on?
P.S. If anyone has a wiring diagram to match this I would be very grateful.
Thanks.

There is no accesories setting
Go to http://www.superbeetlesonly.com and then go to the tech section and down
load the wiring drawings
or give me your email via u2u and i will email them to you.

my '96 Golf doesn't have an accessories position, come to think of it, no VW I have ever owned has had one.

I wish my '75 kombi had one, but instead I wire up accessories so they're fused and then direct to the battery, which prevents burning out
the ignition points when the engine isn't running.

I was afraid of that.
I have the stereo wired up to ignition switch. I too want to be able to listen to it without burning out the points so will do the same as
KruisinKombi.
Thanks again.

Grab your accessories wire from your stereo, twist and solder to your always powered wire (+) from your stereo, then connect to your power source...
Same as Col said, but no need to run your accessories wire all the way to your battery...

your lights run on "IGN" setting on the key stub.. ignore that that is ignition and pretend that its "ACC" and there you go.. NB:
wiring to your lights is good as long as you dont mind it dimming with loud music :P

you will burn your points out and maybe your coil to boot.
This puts power to the points and depending if the points are open or not you will be putting current through the coil.
Try it and then go feel how hot your coil is.
If you mave a Magfire or similar you will toast these as well

Thanks again guys.
As always there are some interesting and some amusing replies to any simple question.
I've got a spare switch sitting on the dash from the previous owner so I'm considering wiring that up as my "accesories" position.
Not sure yet. I want to put in a cigarette lighter socket (or should that be accesories socket in these politically correct times) so that I can
pump up the kids' balls and the bike tires so it could run off the accesories switch as well.
Just while we're on wiring. I put in some driving lights I've had lying around for ages and bought myself a relay to wire them in. Problem
is that I've forgotten what all the numbers mean on the diagram on the side of the relay. I haven't got it handy while I'm typing this
but does anyone know off the top off their head what all the 34s or 83s or whatever they are relate to?
I wait with baited breath. (and poor lighting for night driving)

Hi
I just use a rocker switch under the dash to turn on my stereo. The VW igintion switch does have a terminal that supplies power when the key is
removed, its for seat belt warning I think, its usefull if you want to fit a flashing light on the dash.

No - that is how the cd is in Blue2.
The only down side is you get out, hmmm, may be had ONE beer, singing a song, and you forget to turn off the CD
It is only a problem when you take it through IGN and have it turned on without the motor running

im certain that before i replaced my ignition 1/2 of the electrical fittings on the car ran when it was off. i will have to check the wiring on the
weekend, but since i replaced the ignition i am sure some things still run on the 1st click?

just took a looksie. no accessorie, but in the bus the 7th (and maybe 9th) fuse from the left is wired directly, as it was intended for the front
fans, so u can run things off that. my stereo and heater run from there at the moment.
