Wow! that is spooky when I first looked it is almost a spitting image of mine but then the larger front & rear lights,4 stud wheels,no white top
& bumper overriders came into sight. Beautiful car & a credit to you. Is it electric blue?

Hi Rick,
just finished reading through your Samba link and man you have done a great job. The car is truly a credit to you. Also I am only in Casula, so if
you want a hand at all (bit late now) just send me a PM.
Let me know if you have any trouble with those brakes as I think I have similar ones that I needed to modify to get them fitted correctly.
Why haven't you posted all your progress on here as well as the Samba?
Anyway, keep up the great work and keep us updated.
Congratulations on your family addition (baby) and your car
Kev

Thanks for the replies guys, the car isn't perfect by any means, and i think your car Kev and the amount of work that has gone into it would put
mine to shame (although i realize it isnt a pissing contest lol)
but I think I am just over critical of my own work, I don't know why I haven't posted The car up here before, But thinking that it would be
finished soon I should get to know some people in the local vw circle.
Thanks for the congrats on the little one, I still have to find a way to get a baby seat in the back so he can come out for rides as well.
Kevin I am in horningsea park not far from casula, just past prestons, and I will definitely chat to you about the brakes if any issues arrise, I'll
be on the look out for your bug at the nationals. Who knows maybe ill be in next years one.
Calling around for tyres today, wish me luck.
Rick.

Bugger next year make it this year that is a nice Ghia,us Ghia freaks just appreciate a nice one and you obviously have put a lot of work into it.We
had a baby seat in ours (almost 32 years ago and then had the 2 child restraints for a little while until we upgraded to a Datsun 260C)

i wish i could but its a bit unrealistic..well no its a lot unrealistic.. you see
interior has to be finished, (still waiting on padding for the front seats, and have to modify head rests to slide up and down)
brakes need to be finished (fit rotors and master cylinder...easy, but im still waiting on the drums in the 5x130 pattern to be delivered)
wiring system needs to be double and triple checked to see if everything works (and that bloody horn wont stop honking ...GRRRR)
pedal cluster is in peices
need tires
need seatbelts
Blue slip inspection
registration
ect..ect...
i think this is a impossible task to try and make it within 1.5 weeks ..
i was trying to have it ready for this years show, but then again i only started working on it over the christmas break and the days are so short now
that i dont have much time to work on the car when i get home

i was thinking of going 165x60x15 on the front and 195x70x15 0n the back, 60 profile isnt too low is it?

Really nice car, I've been watching the samba post over the last few months as you've built it up. I have a '63 but it is very much at the start
of the whole process.
When our kids were small (now 15 and 17!) my wife had a '60 ghia as her daily and we put the baby seats in. They do (just) fit, this was the early
days of baby capsules I don't know if they've got bigger or smaller since then. The capsules are the tightest fit, the booster seats once they're
sitting up fit in better.
On your tyre profile, maybe I'm just a sook but I think the 60 profile would be giving you too harsh a ride on a car where the whole family are going
to be coming along. That '60 had Fuchs on it with 70 profile tyres from memory and I wouldn't want to go lower than that.
I'll be putting BRMs on mine but will probably just stick with the standard 165/80 front and rear, but then I'm also staying with the 40HP motor so
you can tell I'm not looking for any performance.....

I had the same problem with the horn, it's all about insulating the steering shaft from the column which i couldnt get right. I ended up buying a
remote unit on eBay and wiring up the remote and putting it in the steering wheel boss to get thought the blueslip, does the trick Not something you
can do with a stock wheel though.

ok finally decided on tyres,
got 175x65r15 for the front and 195x65r15 for the rear... i hope i dont have any issues but if you dont bite the bullet and buy something you will
never know what fits...
got started on tearing down the seats, and got a rear disk brake conversion kit.. looks like im gonna be busy (once that pesky thing called work is
out of the way)

well i got the front rotors on without any issues, the rear disk brake kit fit in perfectly although i did need some axle spacers to allow the castle
nut to tighten the rotor in place... and the 195/65r15 are a tight fit in the rear wheel arch but dont rub.
Rear
front
have not bled the brakes yet as the master cylinder still needs to go in.
had to raise it one notch on the torsions as the exhaust was 4cms off the ground LOL
and a little artsy fartsy photo

thank you mick
biggish update:
well with a little bit of time here and there, i have got a fair bit done.. just have to steal the heater and put it in the garage its been fairly chilly
Where to start??
The clocks have made it into the dash and almost all the wiring is connected (grrrr pain in the backside of a job) i thought the germans had bigger
hands than the japonese but the wiring in these cars says otherwise
still looks like a mess ( i tried my best and failed) but all the lights work
even the brake warning light
the interior is coming along nicely, the carpet has had its final fit and is all glued in place, new kick panels were made and speakers installed.
pedal cluster was rebuilt and painted, new clutch and accelerator cables were installed as well
i had to redo the moisture barriers inside the door panels so that they drained correctly into the door rather than the way i had done them previously
and then it was time to fit the door cards in place
the seat covers are also finding their way onto the car
also painted the rotors to stop them from rusting
hope to get some more done over the long weekend

Hats off to you an awesome Ghia, I mine was that far along, do you, mind if I pick your brains. What size rims at the front 4.5 of 5 and did you get
these locally or OS, the shipping costs I have been looking at are around $400 for a set. Also who are you taking the car to get registered? I am also
in Sydney and fear if I add aftermarket discs it would be harder to get registered is this the case?
Thanks again for the inspiration.

The wheels I got locally from wassim at vollks.com.au, they are 15x5.5 all around with 175x65r15 in the front and 195x65r15 in the rear... As for the
registration side of things, I am not quite at that stage yet so I will think about it when I get there.
