Type 3 Oil filler and dipstick
I've been going through my square and I'm a bit confused.
Are there different setups for the oil filler/dipstick? Other than the usual setup I see with the dipstick as part of the filler cap, that sits under
the rear door.
I got some pics with what I'm working with.
I thought the plastic cap on the breather thing was the filler and that my dipstick was missing, but I haven't seen anyone with anything similar.
Cheers.

The engine number indicates it is a replacement 1600 case. Even though it doesn't have the remanufacture logo.
So I should be looking at beetle dipstick tube, and filler?

You will need to adapt some sort of flexible dipstick to get in there and keep using the breather to fill it up.
Are you in "Tropical air vw Townsville" on Facebook? If not I can sign you up.

Can't be, replacement cases have the type 3 filler point on them.
As MM says its a beetle engine someone has put the type3 cooling on.
Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like its been fitted with one of the universal oil pump type 3 mount things to fit.
For a dipstick you could get a beetle one, cut off the handle and weld on a longer one so it fits down there.
an aftermarket beetle breather/oil filler may fit the type 3 breather stack to make oil filling abit easier.

What if I got these?

Might need long fingers to check oil but may solve the problem.
I'm not in the group, as I'm leaving the tropics for quite the opposite.... WAGGA WAGGA. I leave in less than 3 weeks, really not looking forward to
it.
Not sure when I'll be able to come back.

Interesting. I was going off the engine number and guide on thesamba on engine numbers. It's stamped ADxxxxxx.
I know it's not original type 3 engine as the number is stamped on the front, not top.

Not much technical info on the samba applies to aussie made VWs like vin and engine numbers.
An AD engine is 71-73 Superbug and Kombi in aus.

Well that makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for the info.
At least I know what I'm playing with now!
