Yea sure its unlikely but I know from personal experiences that they are out there. I would have bought one but didn't have the money at the time.

Vee dubs have gone up rediculously in price.
Was only half a decade ago you could score a beetle or kombi with only a few needed touch ups for a grand or just over.
Alot of owners might be excited about it, but i'm a little dissappointed. Young fellas get it harder to get into the air cooled vee dub scene this
day and age.
None the less, affordable gems are out there. be prepared to pull your sleeves up for some minor work prior to roadworthy.

69' baja: kombi box, thing spindles, irs, disc front, type 3 rear drums, 2 inch lift kit, 31x10 rears.
New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!

They are out there, but also generally need a lot more money spent on them to get them safe and reliable. Give yourself a 4k starting budget since you
are needing something to learn to drive in. If you aren't experienced in working on VW's and air cooled motors and wiring, this could be a costly
exercise and not the best starting point looking for something so cheap. Could end in heart ache if you don't have the knowledge and skills
Also can I suggest you look at a later model beetle for your first car? Superbugs have much better handling. Steering, suspensions, performance and
brakes are much better for a learner. Look at model in the 70's.

You really want to have your parents on your side. Unless you are incredibly lucky a cheap Beetle will probably break and bite your wallet. Then
your parents will start complaining about it being unreliable.
Then they will talk you into buying a Corolla or something boring.
I've seen it happen with loads of new drivers buying old cars, including myself many years ago.
