Help Please
Not VW,
My son has bought a registered 1968 Austin 1800 from a deceased estate and it's having some rough idle problems. I'd say a combination of stale fuel
and possibly crap in tank blocking the idle circuit . He's mechanically challenged and needs help.
Can anyone recommend a mechanic who knows their way around a SU carby? He lives in the general vicinity of Sydney Uni so anywhere in the eastern
suburbs or inner west would suit.
Maybe a mini specialist?
At least he's heading in the right direction with that number plate.
Regards,
Matt.

I read recently that our Fuel now starts to break down after a month or so.. a bit different to the old days//
Petrol stayed petrol..lol
SU's always looked like a simple carby.. lol
compared to any other..lol
Austin 1800 are rare these days... Have seen a black one locally now & then..
Sure to be someone who knows about Mini and 1800 etc..
Maybe a mini club in Sydney if there is such a thing..
what about miniman of here??

Hi Matt,
I get my MINI's serviced at Sydney Prestige, on Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills (literally a 2 min car drive from Sydney Uni) - Don't let the name
fool you, whenever I've have had the car in for a service, there have been a few classic Coopers in for some work - If they cannot help you, then
perhaps they'll be able to guide you in the right direction. their number is (02) 9319-3336.
I hope this helps,
Trevor.

Hi Matt. Looks like a good find. I used to have an 1800 and used a Mini specialist in Melbourne to sort out issues (no good to you though). One thing
to check is the diaprham for the PCB valve. Mine failed and caused all sorts of issues. Won't cost anything to check as from memory i

zoofish,
Thanks, he phoned Sydney Prestige and they weren't interested.
Les,
I thought of Sydney Carbies for this particular problem but would rather try to line him up with someone he can continue with long term, for general
maintenance as well.
Bingo, Found mini and moke world on the interweb. They are at Brookvale and he is booked in.
Thanks for the suggestions so far keep them coming, it's nice to have options.
Regards,
Matt.

Did you mean PCV valve? (as in "positive crankcase ventilation"?)
