Faulty Fuel Gauge

'75 L Bug.

My fuel gauge works but isn't accurate. When the tank is full it displays 3/4 or a little more and when it displays empty it, well .... Isn't. Can I calibrate it? It doesn't bother me, I just fill it every now and then, but my wife has a panic the second it displays empty.

You need to make sure the earth is good but the adjustment is made with the little tabs on the sender that stop the arms from moving up or down.

You bend them so that when the arm is at the highest or lowest point in it's movement, the resistance showing on your guage is correct. I am not sure if the 75 is the same as my 72 in the thread above but you can do a google search to find the correct resistance to be sure.

Once you have those figures and have adjusted your tabs on the sender, all should be good.
