legal place to test your top speed?
as per title, is there a raceway to do such tests?
Preferably in Victoria if such thing even exists, I know Calder park raceway limit you to 160km/h My friend
went there and he said they wont allow you to go over 160 in the open practice apparently??
Anyways people got ideas?

I though a VW's top speed was it's cruising speed!
Phillip Island maybe?? Or Winton raceway?
look at their websites and see if there is a small club meet or supersprint; that way you can test top speed (hopefully) and handling

Its not a vw so it top speed is a LOT! more. But I figured its better test it safely and legally rather than risking it on the road.
testing handling will be a bonus too, but that can be done driving everyday the way I drive lol

On a racetrack, depending on the car. My mate had his Falcon XR6 up to the electronic 200km/h speed limiter at Mallalla.
This might be a technicality, but you could break the 160km/h speed limit at Calder. It may be against their rules and get you kicked out, but it's
not illegal. Just like how some guys with 10 second street cars take them to the drag strip. You only get one run, then you get banned for going too
quick without a roll cage. Still, you get your one run in!

yeah I think I'll get yelled good at if top well over 200. I don't like getting yelled at I once tried out the pro gokarts in
puckapunyal, got yelled at for going "too fast" into the pits. yes that happen when someone jumps in front of you when you trying to slow down and
you end up sliding sideways to avoid them.
Never went again lol.
so the roll cage is the reason why they limit you to 160?

Probably. With the roll cage comment I was talking about ANDRA's rule of no drag cars quicker than 11.0 seconds without a cage. The logic is probably
similar for street cars on circuits though.

you would probably have a lot of trouble hitting vmax on a regular race circuit. eg v8taxis struggle to hit vmax going downhill on conrod. Calder
might be the only way. Back in the day I went to NT to do my runs and it took absolutely forever. Once you hit 140ish I have found you start trying to
push a lot of air out of the way. I'm sure its an exponential thing. Acceleration rate drops off sharply above there. For the record a holden nova
will do about 170 ringing its tits off. A turbo kombi will do 6400rpm in top at something like 12psi.

Medium to small airport runway? should give you a km or two of wide open road.
Not sure how much to hire, but they used to hire them for some of the rallies etc and the car mags hire them for vmax runs
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

It depends alot on the vehicle too, a kombi is trying to force a brick through the air so you were doing well, VWs are hard to keep steady at high
speeds at stock ride height, the front just wants to lift to much once you hit about 85-90mph.
I won't say where exactly but any locals will know, me and mate decided to wind out my bug with the old EJ22 a few years ago one late Sunday arvo on
a nice stretch of road known as "the straight"
Its a 4km dead straight quiet country back road in the middle of some cane fields and I managed to hit 188km/h on the GPS before I started running out
of revs and road.
It's amazing what lowering the front and a Kamei spoiler can do for high speed stability in a late bug.

I don't think there will be any track or club that will let you run that fast without the appropriate scruteneering and safety gear.....roll cage,
fire bomb, fire rated clothing, helmets etc.
Doesn't the Northern territory have no sped limits?

Used to be that way. In 2007 they introduced 130kmh limit.

When I was there I generally settled on about 130 in my kombi as the right mix of speed/noise/heat. Being pretty hot of course I had the window fully
down. I got passed by 2 bikes at unbelievable speeds. Reckon they would have been around 300. I didnt see them coming, just the noise explosion as
they blasted past my ear. Scared the crap out of me. If they encountered any of the plentiful wildlife they would have had their bodies scattered
right there and then, no need to wait until after the crematorium. Would be interesting to know the pre/post speed limit death tolls.

yes its an exponential function if anyone is wondering.
what I need is a good straight of about 3km which should be more than enough and with braking distance. I use one road sometimes that has 1.5km of
straight with a massive incline, within 1km you reach few km/h of top speed, but its a dangerous road now with lack of council maintenance , those
lazy pricks! and too many cars on it now. I ran 73 sqaure at 90mph, mp VP at 198km/h in 4th(its a 5 speed) and a friends VY worked SV6 at well 198km/h they perform more or less the same as the 20 year old models.
Also my BMX at around 70km/h.
following down the road another k or so it goes through some steepish hair pins down through the valley over a spill way through a one lane bridge and
back out through more hairpins and onto a 2km straight
Its a seriously wicked road and its just down from our back paddock. If you ever see this road you will realize its the ultimate hoons road
completely covered is black lines everywhere on the straights. Its very popular for road testing I noticed but coz of that its attracts too much
attention these days, hence looking for legal alternatives
Can you really hire air port run ways? surely there would be some tight regulation on one trying to accomplish this?
