Split 52 SOLD....thanks for interest shown and feedback

I have for sale a 1952 Type 115 Model 11C Split Window Crotch cooler Beetle. Car is located in Central Coast.

I would describe the condition of car from good to very good, apparently original running gear engine no 420862 / chassis no 10347670...

it is a older restoration carried out by Volksbahn around 1984, there are things not right like incorrect front guards, moldings etc....car is rust free....car was converted to RH drive in the early 50's by German Lady who immigrated to Australia with car.

The Beetle has also a Blaupunkt valve radio not installed at moment...(was going to have it restored, long story)

The Beetle has been in storage for a long time, only run its been on in the last 12yrs was Dub's to the Pub in 2007....can't really justify storage costs anymore ....

my asking price is 26K ONO ....

i can be contacted through my E-mail address

chipvw63@gmail.com or Mobile 0400471128

and to be more specific about where the car located is ...

Wyong NSW....cheers Chip

When the resto was being done they removed the headlining to find the optional sunroof had been paneled in so they put another one back, i think as you said its later one.... bit shorter than the originals....not sure....looks to be in photos i've seen

And my 'old car', Dave. I bought it from the German lady [it was in East Maitland], and sold it to Fahmi when I moved from Sydney.

Maybe I should...........stop it Greg, you have too many cars now!

Yes Greg, you are trying to reduce the stable not add more

Or, maybe a swap it for your 356. At least you wont have to spend money and that will keep the wife happy.

I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

I think I PM'd you Lu, half asleep, to clear this up for people, this is not a original sunroof car, code shows that its a left hand drive deluxe 11C, codes can be found on Samba in the 1938-53 Forum. Apparently the sunroof was grafted in 30yrs ago when Vic from Vicsbahn did the restoration. The roof was damaged from what i've later learnt. The sunroof was a 54-55?, they differ from what i've learnt and been told, main difference is the 54-55 roofs have a rounded corner and the earlier ones have a squared corner.

I remember drooling at this car in the 1984 Restored Cars magazine:yes:.
Correct on the sunroof. It should be the so-called tree fold sunroof. It is longer than the later type and has square corners. Nice to see a blast from the past!

Just noticed the tag says 11C. So it's NOT an original sunroof model as the cars fitted with Golde sunroof from the factory were stamped 11G. Perhaps it used to have another period acessory sunroof like a Webasto fitted at the dealer or some other time early in it's life. A bit of a mystery there.

As I have said in previous post, it is not a original sunroof car, I think it is Golde sunroof from memory( Golde handle at least), will be able to confirm that when back from Thailand mid July.

Chip - what I'm saying there is a bit of a mystery in regard to the sunroof. This car, being a 11C left the factory without a sunroof. At some point in time someone must have installed an afternarket sunroof in it, then the sunroof was removed and plated over to make it a hardtop again. When it was restored back in early eighties they found evidence of a former sunroof and installed a later (1956 and later) original beetle sunroof. This fact is recorded also in the magazine article from 1984.

Golde was the supplier of sunroofs for the beetle from the split era all the way into the seventies. These were installed at the factory. The early version (up to 1955) was a larger/longer type commonly known as the 3-fold. For the 1956 model and onwards they reduced the length and it had only two folds when opened. From 1964 onwards the fabric sunroof was superseded by a steel slide-back version.

Your car has a Golde sunroof in it, it's just that it's not the right one for the year. Considering this was done back in the eighties when knowledge and available parts were scarce, this must have been the best that could be done.

In no way I want to put down your car. It's an absolute gem and, hey - how many split beetles are there in Australia? I'm just curious about the history of this car and just putting it out there for a discussion. Also, this is one of those cars I was drooling on back in the day and it was amongst those that formed my interest in the early stuff. Fantastic to see it still out there and being offered for sale. Cheers!
