headlight help

Hi folks, just woundering if anyone could help.
I was driving my beetle yesterday through eltham, saw a friend's kombi going the other way so we flashed our high beams at each other, mine worked no issue. Later that night driving home I noticed my headlights sucked. Got home and found that only my parkers worked. I checked all the fuses, wires to the fusebox and theglobesi. I also took the relay out to test, I couodnt make sence of it though. It's a 1972 super beetle stock headlght setup. Can anyone help?

Do your high beams still work when you pull on the dimmer switch?

If yes then problem is in either the headlight switch or the ignition switch.
