69 Notch Auto discovered and restoration
My wife's dream car has always been an 60's Notch. She has discovered one in Watsonia that was with the same owner for 35 years. Left a note in
the letter box and four days later it is sitting in our driveway. Still on it's original registration and regularly serviced it has a rust free
floor pan but rust in a few of the outer panels. We plan on a full rust repair and respray as well as get the engine back up to a presentable
condition.
I've just spent a few weeks reading up on Type 3's and begun the restoration by rekitting the carbs and replacing all the fuel lines.
Just pulled off the right rear guard as this is the worst of the rust. Panel needs a lot of work so looking for a replacement. Inner guards/ wheel
arch needs rust repairs but not terminal.
The car is a 1969 Automatic. Drives really nicely apart from the leaking fumes into the car due to heater pipes being off and an original engine
compartment seal. Chassis plate starts with 3191200XX. Just how rare is this combination?
Does anyone know a source of good second hand or NOS rear quarter panels for a 69 Notch? Are there other rust repair panels available?

NOS rear panels will cost you an arm and the legs of your familiy, good used ones are about here and there, try the samba should be some there.
there are some rust repair bits either in NOS( arm and leg price) or new repro but only real small sections and often the unrusted part on your car.
Also these are often square/fasty specific. notch its its own race.
I suggest Mario at t3 headquarters in Germany (check his website, got all listed there), BerT3 from Belgium, he's on the samba.
Vicsbahn in NSW has some NOS manly earlier parts that should suit yours. Also volksbahn has some NOS parts but I am unsure to what as I didn't
particular like dealing with woman that now owns it.
I have one piece of NOS 69 sheet metal if your interested.

Oh I forgot to mention the repro floor pans from Gerson at klasicfab in USA are ace!.
I got mine through Just campers? ACT, they distribute them here. they are about a grand for a pair which isn't too bag considering how good they are.

what 33 bucks for a door sill? that can't be right. all the prices are so low I would be very skeptical.
but from the pics their work looks really good.
I will book mark this. maybe a few structural bits I could get made by this mob.

Thanks for the leads. I'm still trying to take in all the places for VW's. I'll shoot off some emails to the people you suggest and see what
comes back.
What panel do you have for a 69. I might not need it yet but will no doubt find more rust as I remove the outer panels.
The restorods site does sound cheap. I think my boss got rear quarter panels for his XM Falcon Coupe from them. I'm waiting for him to return from
leave so I can confirm if it is the place and the quality.
At the price they are asking its almost worth taking the punt and ordering a set to see how they are.
Are the early and late Notch rear panels the same except for the lights and trim holes?

he has the spare wheel well, i wouldnt bother dealing with him tho as he sold it to one of the lads and screwed him about and it was still on ebay
the whole time, tread carefully with vlad and his advice
i drive a 71 auto notch, the auo is better than i first thought it was going to be, lovely car you have found and be sure to keep us posted, isp

had a mate buy 2 skins for his Monaro from them.....quality was excellent and he was happy with them. He also sent a panel down to be copied and was
happy with the price and the panel.

yes I know that, Vic is a great mate but I didn't want to mention anything about their personal life.
Yes she was very cranky and just carried on when she found out I was dealing with Vic for NOS parts. Anyway I got what I needed from her and I was
done! and moved on.

this is excellent news!
I must try to cut out some bits out and sent them for reproing.
I rather do this than get a panel beater out for this job, 1 there are no "proper" panel beaters in my town, 2 can't imagine now costly it would be
to get a specialist in classic car fab/panel beating out from melbourne to here with all his/her welders/tools 
if anyone wonders why not drive it there, well its too far torn down to rebuild and drive anywhere now  too late! 
yeah cheers for that. I only wished for a service like this, never knew such a business could exist.

I used to have a tow bar, well half of one. that was toss to scrap
Yes I can transport the shell if I need to but not for little bits of metal to be copyed like these, thats just stupid! Better of getting bits made up
and get everything else NOS which I close to having them all, then when I accumulate some holiday time and decent amount of cash I'll sent the body
off for work and paint.
Or I could just leave it for a very long time and wait till you guys die, so you wont bother me
