My story about a Porsche 928S
At work we had a Porsche 928S in a very distinct cream colour come in. It was in to have paint work done.
Now as soon as I saw the car I was thinking back to when I started my panel beating apprenticeship in 1989. I had to wash the managing director's car
every week, being a cream Porsche 928S. I was a country boy and this was a super car to me. I was allowed to move it into the wash bay. I thought a HQ
Premier was special, so this was a super car to me, and I had a dream that I would love to own a car like this.
So I looked in the glovebox, and looked through the owners manual. The 928S is the one originally owned by my original boss when I started my
apprenticeship. Wow. I had not seen the car for about 20 years, and now it was back in front of me. What a spin out.
345,000 km's and it is still sweet as. Good engineering for sure.

I'm assuming the 4 door is in the porsche museum in stuttgart? I'll be there in a weeks time!! I've worked on a few and a nice one is great, they
all tended to need the suspension bushes doing etc and the auto trans tended to get a bit sloppy. Nothing that can't be fixed just $$$$$. Personally
I'd go for a 964 turbo if I was buying front engined model.

I remember being in hospital in '77 and reading about these.Something about them being the first car to have the bumpers inside the bodywork (I
suppose the same as every car nowadays) and being the first V8 completely designed from the ground up for 30 or 40 years. The headlights though always
did look wrong.

That is where this one was. Right up on the top floor on this huge beam with a 356 cabrio police car as well.

My brother is in Stuttgart atm, I asked him to visit this museum.
So if a 928 was a super car to you then what was cars like the 911 turbo classed as?
to me the 928 as well as the boxster was the bottom feeder of the Porsche family.

964 turbo is mid 80's - early 90's 911 tubo which all 964 were air cooled rear engine.
perhaps you mean 968? those were the successor to the 944.

My bad, 968 I meant. I wouldn't call a 928 bottom feeder, they were probably a much better car than a 911 in terms of being a sophisticated GT
car....when new. These days that's pretty much the case unfortunatly.

Actually they were a bit of a failed attempt to get into the US V8 luxury market and did not fill the role which Porsche cars normally did as a sports
car although they marketed it as their sportiest car at the time.
they were rather slow and somewhat cumbersome cars really when compared to other models. All the weight of the V8 lost its classical Porsche nimble
characteristics although they did so some good improvement towards the late 80's through out to the 90's
Porsche saw the 928 concept that would discontinue the 911 I rofl'd
when I read this.
According to wikipeadia which according to raw performance data the 928 was faster than all the 911's of its time in acceleration except 964 turbo.
According to the data I have looked at 928 was slower than most of the 911 except the 928 GTS was comparable.
there is a lot of conflicting data out there or the person
who rote that wiki page was a 928 fanboy
