Alternator not charging

Hi, I started my new build 2275 for the first time today. i gave the alternator a birthday fitting new bearings and a new regulator, when you turn the ignition on the red light glows, when you start the engine the light goes out but the alternator does not put out and charge, any suggestions would be welcome before i go out and get a new one.
Thanks,
Shayne

is it a internal regulator or external

if external then check the wiring as i had similar pob when i first installed
the numbering of termainals wasnt logical had to get a sparkie to check it out

have you hooked up multi meter to check voltage

And what voltage are you getting. The factthat the light goes out means there is some output.
Is the alt earthed?

If the alternator is painted is can be a bad earth where it sits on the stand..
sounds like it was working before??
why a new regulator?
New brushes or brush holder with brushes would be all that is needed usually.
the commutator on the armature may need cleaning on a lathe
where the brushes run... auto electricians normally do that before fitting new brushes..
so, maybe its not putting out much current..

should be up around 14 volts out put DC..

is the threaded connection clean as new... ?
same with the connection that the wire for the dash bulb
goes..?

cheers

LEE
