opinions wanted on damage please

I recently bought these brand new karmann ghia side trims from a fellow aussieveedubber on this site, they were brand new, when they arrived by freight this is how they looked. They were in a thick cardboard tube which has no damage at all and cannot bend, the ends were taped shut and there was no way anything was coming out of the tube, there are 4 long trims and a few shorter ones in a seperate plastic bag and a seperate smaller bag full of clips was in the end of the tube.I was very dissapointed to open the tube and find the 4 long trims bent like a banana to the point they were almost even kinked.I sent this photo to the guy i bought them off, he said he was sorry about it but he is not willing to help in any way, item cost was $150.00.

I would like feedback from people to see what they think could have caused this to happen when there was no damage at all to the tube, they guy i bought them off suggests they are bent more than the tube(optical illusion only) and i think he thinks i bent them taking them out of the tube maybe, i am a panel beater who has been restoring vws and everything else for 20 years and i can honestly say i am not stupid enough to bend these trims rmoving them from a tube and i have absolutely nothing to gain by bending these after i paid $150.00 for them.

I asked the person i bought them off if he would discount some other parts he is selling to make up for some of this loss but he is not willing to.

I have straightened the trims as best i can but they will always be rippled where the bends were as very thin alloy stretched.

How do you think these got bent?

There bent IMO.

I had the same when I got a Paris Beetle Sunroof sent over. Could not find the same profile in Australia. Rick helped me out by sending more over in another order so I didn;t have to put an insurance claim in.

Did you have postal insurance??

The post was arranged by the guy i bought them off and have no idea about insurance but i dont see how they would accept responsibility if the tube was not damaged?

no the trims are actually a little shorter than the tube, enought that the bag of clips went into the end

Take a dump in the tube and send it back to the seller. Should be nice a nice surprise when he opens it on his kitchen table.

Pain in the butt but if you have a router maybe you could cut a groove in a bit of pine then softly tap back into shape.

That is if the seller does not come to the party of course.

so the 'trims are a little shorter than the tube' as they are in bent condition or will they measure out to fit in the tube as if they were in perfectly straight condition as you in good faith brought them in good condition no doubt?
maybe the tube is not quite long enuff to accommodate them straight but a little bend will make em fit??

Sounds like the sellers or aust post have pulled a swifty to me. Sometimes i get parcels at work that have been damaged in transit and repacked into another container to cover the shippers arse. Confirm with seller that the tube was indeed the one he sent goods in. My2c

Either He bent them putting them in somehow or they were already bent and He knew they were bent..??

strange to put them in such a good container if they were already bent... as You would know they couldn't be bent unless the container was damaged ---- Big damage..

Not Good as container is fine so How did they get damaged in that container???
I don't think they could be...

Seems like someone may have shoved a bag of clips in the end, forcing the trim down, and bending the trim. Inexperienced packer? Or maybe a mistake, one that went un-rectified.

They also could have come out of the tube in transit and the freight/post guy has put them back in and taped it up. That would be the most likely answer.

that was exactly what i was thinking
the guy i bought them off says they were definitely not bent when he sent them but hey mistakes happen and the only explanation i thought of was accidentally bending them shoving the clip bag in the end

If they were sent registerd post there is an automatic $100 insurance against damage, for this reason I always send registered post.

Check if they were, go to the post office and stake your claim.

Cheers,

David

PS I have a new set of trims I will throw in with my 64 Ghia Cabrio if your interested

is it just me or do they look like they are bent more than the tube??

Also looks like they have been run over??
A push down would only give one fold??

Do you reckon the delivery company has changed tubes??

Aust post probably loaded them standing upright or they dropped the cylinder on the ground bag of clips on top bent trims

they are not bent more than the tube, it only looks that way, the plastic sleeves they are in are longer than the trims, they slide back in the tube, i dont think the tube was opened by anyone elase, it was heavily taped to a box of carpet i also bought off the guy(which he thought was for a later model but i found to be early after 10 seconds of opening the box but not too worried about that as i will alter it)
