I don't know if i like it hey. I been waiting and watching the development of the Toyota 86 (or brz, what ever you want to call it) for years now
with excitment from my other facet (toyota) when rumours were going around on the forums of a new celica, some others calling it a supra, before they
dubbed it the 86. now that its out and far less exotic as the prototypes appeared, all i can see is a bmw/german ass with a honda s2000 front and no
distinctive new-ness as such. Toyota was always ahead of its time back in the day, developing curves on bodies when generic cars still were boxes in
the early 90's, now it just seems like they are too conservative and on the safe side by being 'generic' as opposed to outstanding or redefining.
Even the MR2 was unique and outstanding, yet for the masses.
I find its like being told you won the lottery, only to find its more like $2 on a scratchy (excitement then let down). Hope that makes sense?
IMHO.
None the less, its nice to see toyota re-establishing their sports car range.

Hi
I love these cars, they are a future classic, how many cars on the new car lot could you think about calling a future classic.
With the sometimes newer VW reliability issues these make more sense.

The BRZ is a bit expensive at $37k, I hear that the Toyota 86 GT version starts from $29,990. A brand new RWD manual sports car for that price is
fantastic value and I'm sure they'll be good reliable cars. They look like good fun to drive, and with a direct-injected four cylinder they'll be
pretty reasonable on fuel as well. What's not to like? The only thing you could ask for is more power, 147kW isn't all that much in a sports car.

A mate of mine picked his Toyota 86 up from the Gold Coast last week. It has Subaru stamped on most of the body panels and on the engine cover. I know
its a joint venture but it would be good if they had no stamping or Toyota on them. It also has a pipe running from the engine bay into a flap going
to the firewall which makes it sound like sports car from inside the cabin while driving and from outside it is quiet.

I like this car ..... but the things that annoys me most about it is the fact that they try to capitalise on an iconic car but they never seem to do
it justice. This car should of been a balls out monster with more aggressive styling, a bigger engine and a turbo option would be nice too.
Seems a little soft just like so many of the cars coming out these carrying the badges of legends. They should take a leaf out of the GT-Rs book...

Scirocco looks different but check the price at $15k more and the performance comparisons! It is quicker but it also does have a turbo! Completely
different car!
The AE86 that came to Australia was not much more than a different bodied rear wheel drive Corolla, it was not until a couple of years later the 4AGZE
engine came in a Corolla then put that in a Oz spec AE86 and you could start having fun!
Different specs for Toyota Gt and GTS and BRZ so different pricing too!
Great drive, I just wish there was less traffic and more roundabouts so you can enjoy the handling, well sorted and although 147KW seems low. Given
the lightweight and great balance of the car it is a true drivers car. It is surprisingly quick.

A lot of Porsche owners think the same thing when they see VW stamped on parts in their cars too.

What are you talking about? The original AE86 was never a 'balls-out monster'. They had a naturally-aspirated 4AGE with less than 100kW. It was a
fun, affordable sportscar, which is exactly what this new car is trying to be. They were meant to be fun to drive, not outright fast, just like a
Mazda MX-5.

Beyond a doubt, the concept looked far better. far less 'vanilla' and generic.
