1966 original radio and side mirror

Just wondering if anyone could help out with a pic of the original radio that would have came with a 1966 deluxe and also the original side mirror type?

Any links to pics would be appreciated.

Thanks

They didn't come standard with eirther a radio or side mirror. Both were only accessories, bought from and fitted by VW dealers at the time. They were locally made brands, back in the days when Australia used to make electronic equipment. Do an Ebay search on 'Vintage Car Radio' and see what you find.

Scroll down here to see a typical AWA radio ad for VWs from the times:

The proper VW mirrors of the time were fitted onto the top door hinge pin. You can buy the mirror and pin from any decent VW parts shop. Best to have them fit the pin for you too as it is a tricky job to remove and replace without damaging the paintwork.

Cheers Phil.

I had seen them pop up on ebay like:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&...

I had thought as it was a deluxe it may have had one standard but thanks for clearing it up they were aftermarket, guess some had VW symbols on them as well.

Are the side mirrors a pig to fit or not too bad I dont want to scratch the paintwork too much do these look right:

Yes that's a fantastic Australian radio - see the Australian stations on the facia. That radio would have been made by an Australian company (probably AWA) and fitted with VW trimming for supply to dealers. If you find a '60s VW Accessory catalogue, you'll see them listed.

Those side mirrors look fine; you can also get them with round mirrors, rather than egg-shaped like those ones. You'll also need to buy the special hinge pins to go with the mirrors (longer, with a threaded top). A good VW shop can supply and fit them for you.
