Shims go at the barrel to case end to set CR

head gasket (copper type) goes at the barrel to head end and is open to debate if they are needed. I dont believe i hace them on Daisy

with the type 4 motor there is a Gasket thing that can be best described as 3 flat aluminum shims compressed together, total thickness about 1mm they compress slightly after (single) use, maybe not mandatory, but I would prefer to use them, have not yet found a head that they were not fitted to (out of 15 inspected)

BUMP! I cannot believe nobody knows the answer to this, the guy I bought the 1.8 shim/gaskets off did not know either, & would like to - he did not have any 2L ones in stock to compare

Kimm, the difference is the in size for the different barrells 94mm for 2 ltr and 93mm for 1800, the 1800 barrell is thicker than the 2 ltr. I have used either with no problems.
hope that makes sence?

On a type 4 engine you must use the head gaskets between the head and the barrell or they will leak in no time.

thanks Dave, very much, that was my initial theory I was just worried that using the 1800 gasket with the 2l barrel might heat the edge of the gasket up too much causing problems , but apparently this is not hthe case in this instance
