hole in 36hp inlet manifold preheat pipe
Hi there, I had a blocked preheat pipe on my inlet manifold and managed to clear it with an old cable and turps, but it must have been corroded as it
pierced thru the tube wall where it butts up against the inlet tube. I was thinking of separating the two pipes and welding up the hole. Anyone done
this before or would it be easier to block off the preheat holes at the exhaust? Would perfer to have it all operating but since these manifolds are
rare in good condition I would prefer to fix mine. Any thoughts?

HI
My 1500 single port engine had blocked heat riser pipes and My engine stopped because of ice buildup on the inlet manifold. I cleaned it out and had
it welded up... once maybe twice, then next time I was cleaning the engine I happened to put My fingers behind the pipe and the rust was protruding
out... once poked with a screwdriver it all just fell away.. I believe that once the rust starts in them unless You can stop it.. it will just get
worse.. I don't think welding a rusted steel pipe is the answer..
So then I bought another one.. from Stokers siding.. was used but in great condition...
I can now see that you can buy new ones...
but there would be many early ones about..
and in V Cold weather... You do NEED them unless you have twin carburetors..

cheers for that Lee, Im going to have a go and cut thru the welds and cast aluminium sleeve which hold the heat riser and inlet pipe together and see
how big the hole is, if its able to be welded , failing that I will hunt for another one
