Difference between 1200 and 1300-1600 gaskets?
Hey guys apparantly my beetle has a 1200 crankcase with 1600 cylinders and heads fitted to it and i'm a bit unsure what parts I need.
It has a few leaks at the moment so I have the motor out ready to replace some gaskets but I don't know what parts to get. Will a gasket set for a
1300 be different or will most of them fit? Also I have not been able to find a set for a 1200 available online, does anyone know where to find
one?
Thanks, Toby

Micks motors or Vintage will have the gasket sets. Kit I got from Micks covered oil seals for 1200 and 1300 motors.
Try to figure out where the leaks are coming from as if the barrels have been machined could mean barrel base is leaking n not sure you can get paper
seals any bigger than 1200 for that.

Hi
Don't use paper gaskets under the cylinders, they only squash and then make the heads loose.

so why did VW use them on the 1200 then? I mean I get what you're saying but I wouldn't trust a semi hardening sealer there.

Hi
VW didn't do everything perfect, paper gaskets in that area is just one of them, I use Curil by Elring in that area.
