RHD Rubber Floor Mats

Does anyone one know of a supplier that makes stock style over the tunnel RHD rubber floor mats for a 60's beetle?

Heaps of RHD carpet kits and LHD rubber mats but no RHD rubber ones that i've seen.

Anyone?

Cheers
Shaun

Hi Shaun as the tunnel is only a straight run with cut outs for the handbrake, heater knob and the pedal cluster

why not get a sheet of either plain or a patterned rubber from Bunnings or one of the rubber suppliers and make your own.

If you need a pattern I think I still have the old centre section of my Ghia carpet.

Contact Wolfsburg West. The guy that made our RHD rubber floor mats for our oval supplied them to WW for a limited run.

They may be able to help with RHD sets for 60's beetle as the demand is increasing over there.

No he didnt, he had a mould made for the RHD Oval rubber mats and made them himself. We bought the last one which was his personal back up. He supplied WW, but had kept a couple himself.

These were oval only, not later. As mentioned if you contact WW they may be able to assist with someone who can help for later beetles as the RHD scene is growing over there and they get lots of people asking about them.

His name is Eric Jones, and runs a business in LA called The Label Company. Eric has a RHD '56 Beetle, and made a 'run' of RHD mats, to amortise his costs in making the moulds. He's a good bloke, and has helped me get some bits, including the 356 drum brakes for my No. 8 Beetle.....and of course, a set of '56 floor mats.

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

I've emailed WW to ask about 60's rubber floor mats and Ron hadn't a clue where to get them anymore either.

They only have the RHD rubber ones listed for 1956-1959 beetles

Frustrating really; surely there would be a need for RHD rubber mats? Not as many of them as LHD but still....

I suppose they weren't sold in the US so aren't "important"

I might ask Lenny Copp at West Coast Classic Resotrations and see if he's got anything to add....

Hi I have contacted a manufacturer today.

If enough people wanted these mats he would need to have a minimum of 100 orders with a non-refundable deposit of $100. They would be about $300 a set or maybe more.

Can anyone tell me if the Aussie mat set share the same pattern as the US types?

I'm not doing this for me understand, I would just like to help out. Otherwise its use what you can, or carpet :(.

I've got an original RHD front mat that would be a good one to copy but $10 grand up front might be a challenge !!

Yep,

It is a lot isn't it. :D I was thinking if he did just the two fronts instead of a whole set that might work out a bit cheaper.
Anyways early days for me. A set was on eBay UK for 99 pence :(.

Cheers,

I'm thinking the front mat for a big window Beetle 58- 67 is a one piece over the hump moulded unit. One piece?

65busser I am not sure.

Mine is 100 piece mat made of rust & rubber. That's why I would like a newby. :( I find it really hard to understand why such a majority type car has no production of a product that a lot of people seem to want.

Maybe I have it wrong. Maybe everyone is happy to put up with carpet.

^ Yep Eric has a few sets left, I ended up buying them for my 60 bug as I wanted to replace and they're really the only option, not quite correct but trimmed to fit with a new carpet and looks great.

Over here in the US I have found that Lenny at West Coast Classic Restoration (classicvws.com) has mats for 56-59 Ovals but not for 60's with the larger one piece front mat. He did suggest that we could get a set of RHD mats and a tunnel mat from Wolfsburg West and do a combination, but no one is making the large front may for RHD cars.

Autobarn generic mats

My Beetle has the original flat mats. But they are very hard to clean and the flat design don't stop dirty rain water that runs off my shoes from swishing around.

I saw these two mats in Autobarn. Streetwize Houston and Washington. They cost under $10 each. So total cost is $40+

Breath width is a near perfect fit. And they have rubber spikes which keeps them snug to the original mat.

They also have reservoir type edges so if you get caught walking in the rain - they will help prevent the dirty water from running into the floor pan.

Made of heavy rubber - they also lend a nice feel to the car when I get in.

The ones for the front need some alteration which you can do with a strong sharp scissors.

What sort of interest is there for RHD rubber floor mat sets?

I ask this because I am looking to copy/reproduce from OG mat set initially for 1956-1959 Oval Beetles

and other models ie. 1954-1955 and 1960 onwards if processes can be successfully arranged
