So close yet so far - a story about a vw lost and nearly found

Here is a little story about hopes and disappointment with a vw theme.

So my girl and I attended Action day last week.
As you all probably know we took our time capsule bug for it's first outing since re - rego.

Anyway, about ten years ago I was working overseas abit and for a while I thought I was actually going to be staying overseas, so I thought it best to sell my beloved 1963 notch.

It was in same if not better original condition than our 62 bug.

Anyway I dream of finding it again.

I decided to put a wanted add on our bug at Action day in the hope of rustling up some info about it.

We had not been at action day for more than a minute than a guy came up to us and said,.. "I think I used to own that car. I sold it to a mate who needed an engine for his square back."

As you can imagine I was thinking.

Oh my God!!! are you kidding me. Could I have found it.

I said,.. "Is this guy still your mate??"
Answer,.. "Yes! I'll get in contact with him see if he still has it, I've taken your details." he says.

Anyway we got talking about cars we'd owned and it turns out he also owned my first bug after me. A blue and white 60/61 bug. That I bought off Guy Harding way way back. Also a lovely original bug.

How strange is it that we have both owned two vehicles the same with a different owner in between. What a coincidence!

So I digress.

The long and the short.

Has my phone rung this week???

No.
:(

So if you are out there my old type 3, under a house or tucked away in a shed or worse,.. outside!! I'd still love to have you back even if you don't have an engine anymore.

The hope lives.

Reading a story awhile ago about an aussie 60s custom hot rod
Way back when, after many finished with them they cut em up used bits for others and a majority went to the tip
Anywho 1 bloke at the tip found a cowl section, took it home, another bloke awhile later found another section took it home
They both made rods from their pieces, many many years later the original rod builder was at a show and recognised his custom pieces
Both these newish rods where at the one show, the original builder mentioned of the throwing bits at the tip and both said thats where we found the bits
Its funny there was over 20 years between the throwing the bits, and finding them being used

Have you thought of running the numbers like the old rego number or the vin through the vcheck system to see if it comes up? Bit of a long shot but then it may tell you if its still out there.

I didn't keep any paper work with the vin on it.

and I de-registered it,.. those plates in the pic were returned to QLD transport.

Car was sold unregistered.
