Help with hood liner please
i have a 68 beetle and i have a TMI 'quick fit' hood liner. I have put all the bows in the right places and its sitting in roughly the right spot
but here lies my problem.
no matter which way i pull it to glue it down (no glue yet) it has creases and looks crap.. i've tried staring at the front first then the back first
then the sides and no matter how i do it it just looks shit... I know years and years ago we used to fit them and they would be loose and we used a
kettle and put it in the car and boiled it and it srunk them out.. Do u still do that??
i dont want to ruin it as its the last thing i have to do and the cars totaly finished... any pointers, ideas ,suggestions etc etc would be bloody
great...
steff......

Clamp the liner with bulldog clips, use a hair dryer or put a heater in the car to warm up the material go around the whole car streaching the liner
(front - rear - then sides) several times until happy with it. then glue one side at a time reclamp till glue drys and hey presto.

x2 and it is a bugger to do on your own but if you persevere and don't get frustrated and rush it you will get it there and it will look good.

if u use industrial stuff its too strong so if u need to pull the liner off to adjust u could damage the liner.... just keep that in mind as u will be
readjusting once glued.
Pics once u have done the job!!

tac adhesives brush contact 205. I cannot stress how much better this is than what you can buy at a hardware store and its not expensive, about 25
buks for 500ml from memory and designed for motor trimming and also is heat resistive to 130o.
you can get it at vyfab and other trimming suppliers or direct from the factory in Dandenong.

I wonder how they did it in the factory, I doubt that they had the time to do it this way.

Probably highly refined lining shape n size and skilled workers.
I did the carpet in my other car, took me 2 days to fit it right, where the og factory carpet have all the trimming and holes cut using a die or done
using a jig so it fit perfect and could be tossed in the car in 30 sec.
Mass produced interior all identical to each other with all the fitting refinements done already before product starts.
Its why car manufacture spend so much money developing the cars and production tooling first so that they can build them fast and make profit.
