Kombi swivel seats?
Hi all, been a while since I posted anything, but browsing through the posts always keeps the heart for VWs warm.
I recall coming across a VW website (UK, I think) some years ago, where they had photos and instructions on how to convert conventional front seats in
a VW bus so that they swivelled. The process involved using a wheel hub and brake drum. From memory a steel plate was welded under the seat and the
drum bolted to it. The hub was somehow fixed to the body and the brake cable used to release and hold the seat in any rotated position.
Does anyone know the link? I think it would be a good topic for a 'how to'....

That sounds extremely dodgy. I doubt any engineer or inspector would pass that as being safe and legal.
In any case it would only be possible on German import buses from 1977-79, as earlier Australian-assembled Kombis had tall steel walls behind the
front seats that would prevent the seats rotating. They were removed on the last T2 Kombis, and the later T3s commonly had rotating front seats on
camper conversions.
For late Kombis with no seat walls you should just use the factory-style mountings that were used by the Westfalia-style Campers (not used in
Australia). These are still available from the USA (around $290 US):
