type 3 question
just wondering if anyone on here has come across steel sill step covers for type 3?. all the ones i have are alloy.
was their ever a steel version made? if so what model would you find them on? just enquiring about it any thoughts ?
thanks in advance
ps not looking to buy so mods please don't move to wanted adds

Yes there were small steel ones. They were basically a "U" shaped channel which clipped over the raised edge of the sill like the alloy ones. The
alloy ones were on the imported 1500 Notch and Square range to 1963. The 1964-65 1500S import and then the 1600 Fastbacks retained this trim. The OZ
built 1500 range 1964-65 including (I think) the OZ produced 1965 1500S had the small steel trim on the sill.

My old zenith blue deluxe notch had steel ones (Dom/SEDF owns now). they are smaller than the alloy ones.

You do mean the trim strip which covers the rib where the outer rocker and inner join as posted on The Samba by your mate Vlad? These were the early
plain Jane ones rather than the full wide alloy ones which many seem to think were the only ones to exist.
The small ones provided a cover for the raw edge of the join plus a cover for the carpet along the inside of the sill. The wide ones did the same
job plus provided a cover for the sill to prevent scratching/wearing of the sill paint. Just looked a lot better and many cars which came out with
the thin steel ones had them replaced with the wider ones from wrecked imports from early 60's and Fastbacks from the later 60's.

yeah they are the ones i had, i dont like em personally, i have to say they are few and far between u always see the alloy versions.

well the thin steel ones dont really protect anything where as the alloy ones do thats where i got confused from the begining, i was thinking wide
steel ones.

the wide ones protect as in accelerating rust from trapped dirt and moisture
I haven't seen any worn paint on the steel equipped cars yet. guess it depends on where you step when you get in the car.
