T3 double cab
I have just purchursed a 1990 T3 Double Cab auto.
It is an unusual one as it was ordered new as a Tristar in 1989, but delivered 10 months later as a deluxe with Tristar stickers.
It is a 5 seater walkthrough, caravelle type seats front and rear, carpet, opening quarter windows, auto, powersteer, alloys.
Original paint, one owner, 90,000klms, unmarked inside and out.
I intend to put a Subi EZ30 6 cyl in it.
Has anyone put the Subi Auto box in one of these?
I am not sure if the stock auto is up to it etc.
Your thoughts appreciated.

Thanks, I will ask Todd, just wasn't sure whether he touched autos.
I have driven T3's with a 6cyl 20 years ago I was impressed at the time.
Surely the kilowatts are quite different?
I just drove this one up from Melbourne and the fuel consumption surprised me. Used about 14l/100 over 1500klms with no extra weight on board.
My auto 2005 Chev ute, 6 litre and 340 hp only uses 12l/100 on a trip and the T3 struggled and failed on long uphills to maintain the posted limits.

The 2.1 shouldn't be 'that' bad. It's probably got some efi issues. Mine produced those results towing my beetle on a light single axle car
trailer on a 5000km weekend round trip to Portland.

Sorry to say but thats normal hi way consumption for an auto . they are very greedy compared to a manual.
I averaged 15l / 100 kl around town on both my auto T3 dual cab. Mitchell
23 windows ...8 too many!

G'day,
I reckon the EZ30 is a cracker of an engine, just a tiny bit longer than the 4 cylinder versions. I drove a T2 Kombi with the older EZ30D and one of
my 5 speeds in it months ago (pix are on my website) and it was awesome. The low down torque gave it effortless cruising in any gear, you don't even
bother changing down to go around corners. When the EZ30 hits 4000 or so it really opens up and loves to redline, so you can have fun with it as well.
If you wanted to go crazy you could go for the EZ30R or EZ36R with variable valve timing (and the ECU/Canbus complexity to go with it).
I am still working on the auto - have two final parts to manufacture for the test unit and they have taken almost a year. I am expecting them sometime
over the next month or so. I just had a low km clean 5 speed paddle shift auto, ECU and harness delivered here Saturday in preparation to make the
test unit. There will be a bit more fiddling than with the manual transmissions as the auto requires it's ECU and wiring. Half cut EZ30's with autos
will make awesome donors.
Have already measured up a T3 engine bay and undercarriage - it will fit a 2WD auto and EZ30, will even fit an EG33 with a little bit of massaging.
Don't worry,I'll let everyone know if/when the reversed auto is working.

EZ30 auto
Great news!
I am happy to be the guinea pig if needed.
This sounds like a great conversion.
