356 steering wheels in a KG?
Hi guys,
I'm wondering if it would be possible to fit a 356 b or c steering wheels into my 67kg. Would there be a lot of modifying or it's a straight fit?

Hey Pat.
Give me a Spline count plus an outside diameter across the splines of the Steering Shaft on your KG.
The course spline on the 356A was replaced in 1959 with a finer spline for the incoming 356B and carried thru the 356C (aaand...maybe the early
911/912/914)
The B and C Steering Wheels look similar, but the T5B is "flatish" at there narrow end of the spokes. Whereas the the T6B and the C are "narrower
and rolled/roundish".
The Horn "button" was available with or without a Ring.
The transition from the back of the Steering Wheel is also very different for the early and later splines. The 356A Steering Wheel was narrow and
matched the A steering column (roughly 40mm diameter. The B and C had a transition of about 95mm diameter which looks pretty ugly without the B
Steering column case.

HI Lance,
Thank for the info. Unfortunately my car is on ship at the moment comming from the US so I cant count the spline. Hmmm so do you think it will work? I
know the steering wheel for the 356 is B/C . I was hoping this will fit in without any issues.

I really don't know Pat - it is crystal ball stuff, I don't know what the other half of the story holds. The KG column.
The potential issues are:
•Spline pitch matching.
•Indicator Switch cancel
•Horn electrics
•Cosmetic matching of wheel to column.
That said, I have never seen one that can't be "made" to fit. eg. I have taken the hub from a similar wheel and fitted a suitable alternative hub.
A bit of lathe work and some new threads....if you have the original KG wheel (or similar) for donor bits.
'Had a look on the net for pics - non with naked splines. several aftermarket wheels with the standard hub adaptors with crush section.
